TERM 1/WEEK 1 CROSS CURRICULAR SUGGESTED LESSON PLAN 10 SEPTEMBER 2016/ 7 DHULHIJJA 1437 ISLAMIC DATE, SALAA TIMES ON BOARD START WITH RECITATION OF A SURA OF QUR’AN (I suggest the first 5 ayaat of Suratul Fajr every week) 1. Introduce yourself, timetable, class rules and housekeeping. Ask students to make a note of the focuses of the term - a) Hajj. b) Ghadeer & Mubahila (Imama & Ahlul Kisaa), c) Muharram, d) Rasulullah 2. Introduce the month of Dhulhijja as the month of Hajj and 3 A’yaad - Eid ul Hajj, Ghadeer & Mubahila 3. Discuss the two important days of ‘Arafa & Eid ul Hajj. With ‘Arafa talk about the concept of knowing oneself. Ask the students to describe themselves – Physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually. (Be careful that there is no negativity and every description has a positive spin on it). It can be as simple as E.g. I am a Khoja Shia Ithna asheri Muslim who has warm brown eyes, loves football and coming to Workshop….. The idea is to make the students think about who they really are….and then who they want to be ... 4. Inspire them to want to reach the stars provided they are willing to work for it.....the day of 'Arafa is for such aspirations especially between Zhuhr & Maghrib 5. With Eid ul Hajj discuss how Eid in celebrated maybe showing them pictures of what happens in Hajj – the sacrificing of an animal, the shaving of heads etc… 6. Discuss Eid Salaa…if time permits. EID-E-MUBAHILA

"To those that argue with you concerning Jesus after the knowledge you havereceived say : Come, let us gather our sons and your sons, our women and yourwomen,ourselvesandyourselves.WewillpraytogetherandcalldownthecurseofAllahoneveryliar."

Qur'anAaliImran3:61WhatIsMUBAHILA?When real arguments fail to produce the desired effect, then to wish for theintervention of ALLAH'S judgement in order to sift the right from wrong; isMUBAHILA.In the year 9 A.H. Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) wrote to the heads of differenttribesandcountriesoftheworldinvitingthemtoISLAM.One of the letterswaswritten to the Christian community ofNAJRAN; a territorymadeupof72villagessituatedonthebordersofHijazandYEMEN.Theyhadaverybig church which they regarded as equal to the Ka'ba. The three leaders of theChristiancommunitywereAQIB,ABDULMASIH,&ABUHARITH.AbuHarithwanted all thepeople to accept ISLAMbut his friends did not like theidea.ItwasdecidedthatagroupofChristianleaderswouldgotoMadinatodiscussthe issue with the prophet (S.A.W.) himself. Sixty of the most important leaderswerechosentogo.TheycametoMadinarichlydressedwithgoldringsandsilkenclothes.Theprophet(S.A.W.) did not see it proper even to return their greetings and Imam Ali (A.S.)askedthemtocometoseetheprophet(S.A.W.)aftertheyhadchangedtheirclothesto something simpler. They took his advice and were warmly welcomed by theprophet (S.A.W.) They were put up in one part of the mosque where they wereallowedtoperformtheirprayerscomfortably.TheyaskedtheProphet(S.A.W.)whathethoughofJesusandhesaid:"HewasahumanbeingcreatedbyGodandwasaprophet.""Have you ever seen any child born in this worldwithout a father?" the Christianleadersasked.Theprophet(S.A.W.)repliedusingtheayaofQur'an:"Jesusis likeAdaminthesightofAllah.Hecreatedhimfromdustandthensaidtohim'BE'andhewas"

theProphetinvitingtheChristianstoaMUBAHILAwherethecurseofAllahwouldbeontheliars.TheChristians accepted the challengeandwentback towhere theywere staying.AbuHarithadvisedthem;tellingthemthatiftheprophet(S.A.W.)broughtwarriorsandofficerstothefieldofMubahilathehisclaimtoProphethoodwasuntrue;butifhe brought his children and dear ones than it would mean that he was a trueprophet.Next day at the appointed hour the Prophet (S.A.W.) arrived at the place whereMubahilawasgoingtotakeplacewithImamHusayn(A.S.)inhisarms,ImamHasan(A.S.)holdinghisotherhandandfollowedbyBibiFatema(A.S.)andImamAli(A.S.)He had told them that when he raised his hands in prayer they were to say'Ameen'(Sobeit).The Christians watched the Prophet s.a.w and his AhlulBayt walking towards theappointedplace.AbuHarithaskeda localpersonwho thepeoplewerewhowerewalkingwiththeProphet(S.A.W.)HewastoldoftheirnamesandtheirrelationshipwiththeProphet(S.A.W.)AbuHarithtoldhiscolleagues:"Iseesuchfacesthat if theyraisetheirhands insupplicationandpraytoGodthatthe biggest mountain may be moved from its place, the same will happenimmediately.WeshouldinnocircumstanceengageinaMubahilawiththesesacredpeoplebecauseitispossiblethat.....notevenoneChristianmayremainaliveonthefaceoftheearth."Everyoneacceptedhisadvice.TheygaveuptheMUBAHILAandatreatywassignedwhereby the people of Najran would supply the ISLAMIC government 2,000garments every year , the price of each which shall not be more than 40dirhams........
