Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome BBQ On Friday 13th March 2020 the staff of Warrimoo Public School will be holding a ‘Welcome to 2020’ BBQ breakfast at our school between 7.30am-8.30am. This will be an opportunity for parents to come into the school to talk to the teach-ers and parents regarding the year ahead and make connections with others. We would absolutely love to see you here and share the hour with you before the day gets underway. Student Safety & Parking Patrols Student safety is our number one priority at Warrimoo Public School. At times, children can be unpredictable and act in a manner out of character. Florabella St, as I know you’re more than familiar with, is a very narrow street with limited parking before and after school. Please be aware that the signage regarding parking is for the safety of all our children and that Springwood Police do regular inspections of our school area. Below I have attached a photograph of some of the signage in case you are unfamiliar with them. I appreciate your consideration and support regarding this matter and I am certain you too would echo my sentiments about keeping our children safe. Additionally please be aware and considerate of our neighbours when parking near our school to ensure that driveways are not obstructed or blocked. Thank you for your consideration.

Parent Teacher Interviews At Warrimoo Public School we believe that building partnerships with home is important in the academic, social and emotional development of every child in every classroom. In order to provide feedback and share dialogue we will con-duct our first formal Parent/Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 17

th March 2020 between 2pm and 7pm. If you are unavaila-

ble to meet at this time you are encouraged to make an alternative appointment with your child’s classroom teacher which is mutually agreeable. Following the distribution of Semester 1 reports there will be a further opportunity for you to meet with teachers for addi-tional Parent/Teacher Interviews if you wish or requested by the classroom teacher. Further information in relation to booking interview times will be forward to you in the near future. We look forward to enhancing the school and home partnership. Positive Behaviour for Learning Update Positive Behaviour for Learning provides us with an opportunity to congratulate the fantastic students from our school and to encourage positive dialogue between us all. Since the beginning of 2020 the staff have been handing out ‘Caught You Being Good’ Eagle Egg Cards in the playground to students that they have witnessed following the core values and expectations at Warrimoo Public School being safe, respectful, learners. Congratulations students for mak-ing such a positive start to the 2020 school year.

The very talented Mrs McCarthy has designed the Eagle Egg card which signifies the many aspects that make our school so special and unique. Attached below is the design and the meaning behind it.

Mrs Drummond’s Big News I would like to formally advise you that Mrs Drummond and her family are expecting a new baby later in the year. The Drummond family are very excited and we are all very happy for them at Warrimoo Public School. A very warm congrat-ulations goes out to the Drummond family. School Photos School photos for 2020 will be held on Tuesday 24

th March 2020 at Warrimoo Public School. All students are reminded

to wear their full summer uniform; Girls: Summer dress or green shorts and school polo with black shoes Boys: Grey shorts and school polo with black shoes

Life Education Last week Warrimoo Public School students had the opportunity to participate in the annual Life Education sessions here at school. I would like to congratulate and com-mend every student for their hard work, positive behaviour and mature approach to the experience. While this was a once a year event, the conversations started in these

sessions will be expanded on by classroom teachers in the upcoming weeks and months. Zone Swimming Carnival On Friday 21

st February many students from our school represented us at the Blue

Mountains PSSA Zone Swimming Carnival. I would like to congratulate the children on their outstanding behaviour, effort and team spirit. It is days like this that show the entire Blue Mountains what a fantas-

tic school we have. Thank you to Miss Withers for her organisation and hard work that she put in to help make this such an enjoyable and rewarding day. Roofing Works at WPS The Department of Education will be conducting roofing works in and around our school over the remainder of this term and possibly into the early weeks of Term 2. The existing roof tiles on the Administration building, Infants block and the RFF room will be replaced with Colourbond sheeting. Please be aware that this will cause some temporary disruption around our school. The staff carpark to the south side of

our school will be utilised to store the equipment required to conduct such work. Additionally, there will be temporary fencing erected to ensure that all students, parents and staff remain safe. Finally, I am certain with the additional trades here in the school and limited staff carparking the impact with traffic around our school will be increased. Please ensure that you allow a little extra time regarding drop off and pick up and keep a watchful eye out for children and pedestrians near our school.

Pest Spraying With the recent wet weather, we have experienced of late an increase sighting of ants, cockroaches and spiders within our school. In order to maintain a safe learning environment for all students, visitors and staff members the school will be sprayed for pests on the afternoon of Friday 13

th March, commencing at 4pm. Unfortunately, once again, the

previously planned spraying of the school was cancelled due to poor weather. The work conducted will commence at the southern end of the school to avoid interruptions to the Fisill program. P&C AGM Meeting Please be aware that the next P&C Meeting scheduled for 18

th March will be the 2020 AGM. The team welcomes all

parents and community members of our school to become involved in the P&C with all positions available. The meeting will commence at 7.30pm sharp. Access Points around the School For safety reasons we ask that all students (and visitors to the school) enter and exit the school using the main entrance gate near the administration office of the school. While I am certain it is convenient to use the carpark near the Infants Block, it is essential that this is not utilised for entry and exit of the school grounds. With the movement of vehicles around our site, carparks are not the place to be walking through. The safety of all our students, parents and staff is of the utmost of importance! Food Allergies – Anaphylaxis Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction to a range of substances and foods that may cause serious illness or death. Foods that may cause an anaphylactic reaction can include shellfish, milk, wheat-based products or eggs. However, the most prevalent and potentially most serious cause of a reaction is peanuts, tree nuts, products containing nuts and shellfish products. A significant number of students at Warrimoo Public School have been diagnosed with anaphylaxis to dairy, shellfish, nuts, egg and kiwifruit. Wherever feasible possible, because of this reason, it is requested that parents and caregivers refrain from sending foods to school with their child/ren that contain known triggers. Students with anaphylaxis can have a severe reaction by merely touching the hands or desktop of a child who has touched and eaten such products. We encourage the practice of students washing their hands before eating and again immediately after eating which then assists in reducing the potential of a severe reaction. If you are unsure of triggers please take the time to speak with your child’s classroom teacher regarding allergies within the classroom. At all times, we encourage healthy eating habits for students and the process of washing their hands before and after eating. Bullying. No Way! On Friday 20

th March, our school will stand united with other schools across Australia in the National Day of Action

against Bullying and Violence. Children will participate in specific lessons throughout the day. The following link to the Bullying No Way website has some great activities for kids and information for parents. https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/forkids Warrimoo Public School continues our focus on the wellbeing of all our students, teaching positive behaviours in all as-pects of school life.

Cross-Country Carnival Now that the season has changed and we anticipate slightly cooler weather it is fitting that I commence the discussion related to our annual School Cross-Country Carnival. The carnival will be held here at school on Tuesday 31

st March

2020. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful setting at Warrimoo Public School that will certainly test and challenge the students. Further information will be communicated as we get closer to the event. I wish you a very happy and enjoyable fortnight ahead. My kindest regards, Mr Tony Jeff Principal
