Dubbo South Public School Respect, Care, Cooperation & Responsibility
From Sharon’s Desk Good Luck to all students who will be representing us at the upcoming District Swimming Carnival this Thursday from 4pm. We have a strong team of 37 students who will be attending under team manager Sue Buttrey. We wish them all the best and know they will represent us proudly. Enjoy and do your best. Attendance is important everyday at our school if you want your children to perform well and achieve their outcomes. If your child can’t be at school due to illness, you must inform the school, use REMIND, School App or call the school office. As much as possible, as a family, holidays need to be organised during term breaks. If you wish to take your child out of school for travel, you need to apply for family extended leave. This is not a given as the Department states that attendance is essential for learning. I cannot condone excessive leave. Holiday leave, if not approved will be noted as absent on the roll. Parents need to complete an “Application for Extended Leave”. Approvals will only be issued if the leave is in the best intent of the student—educational, social and participation reasons which should specified on the application. Clean Up Day will be recognised and carried out this Friday. A group of students will be travelling with staff to Sandy Beach for clean up. The rest of our students will be at school cleaning up our grounds. A good day to remember that we all can contribute to keeping the environment that we live, work and play in tidy, clean and free of potential pollution for generations to come. Working Bee will be held this Sunday from 10am for about 2 hours in the OLGA off Dalton St. Mrs Kerry McKenzie has been working creatively on developing further the outdoor learning space. We have a newly designed goanna in the garden space and it is time to plant. Come along and bring your hat, water bottle and any gardening tools you may have. See you there. Our next P&C Meeting will be held on Wednesday 6th March from 6.30pm in the Shed. An agenda will be out in the next newsletter. Mr McBroom will be attending to discuss his new role. Have a great week, Sharon Murray, Principal

Classes have settled in well to the routines of library and other release rotations. Lots of students are borrowing books from our extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books. We have a collection of spare bags for students to use if needed.
Book Club: was unpacked late on Friday after-noon, much to the disappointment of some children. Most orders have gone out to children by now. If you have a question, please contact us in the library.
Book Fair Early next week some large silver cases will arrive in the library. This is our 2019 book fair. A book fair is different to book club. The books are actually in the library and can be selected and paid for on the spot. Brochures showing some of the books that may be available at the fair will go home this week and next. When we have a book fair we are able to select a percentage of the proceeds from the fair in books, for the library. Payment can be made by cash or eftpos. Opening times will be sent home in next weeks newsletter. The book fair will be open before and/or after school on selected days.
2019 Premier's Reading Challenge The 2019 challenge will open next Monday, 4th March. Generic forms for recording books read will be available in the library. Reading records need to be completed by 30th August 2019. The challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. There is a list of books for students to select from, for K-2, 3-4 and 5-6. Books available in the library are marked with red, green or purple stickers. More details will go home in future newsletters. Lots happening in our library. Happy reading. Homework All Kindergarten students were given homework for the first time this week. Remember that homework is due back to your classroom teacher every Friday. Labelling Personal Items Please remember to ensure that all of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled. There have been a number of things that have gone missing or that are left in the playground. It is much easier to find items and return them if they are labelled. Morning Routines Please remember that if you are arriving before the 9am bell, we ask that all students wait at the canteen area where there is a teacher supervising. This includes students who are waiting with their parents. We also ask that both students and small children do not play on the fixed equipment before or after school.
