Tēna koutou katoa- Greetings to you all Many thanks to the parents who have come into school to seek clarification regarding their child’s homework for 2015. Junior students will continue to maintain their daily reader and their basic sight words. From the beginning of next week, out of school time activities for each class can be found on class blogs via the school web- site . You also need to check out what is happening in your child’s classroom by accessing their class blog. If invited, please make an appropriate comment on the class blog, remembering that what you say will be online for all to view. To further support our student/learner agency focus, the Board of Trustees has agreed to shut the school on Tuesday 28 th of April to enable all the staff to travel to Auckland to observe students driving their learning independently in a supportive environment at Stonefields School. This school is only open for school visits on a Tuesday. If we were to send 4 teachers each of the weeks we weren’t committed to swimming, it would have cost us $4,000.00 to release teachers and pay for relievers. I am sure you can see that this is a logical and financial move to close the school for instruction on the 28 th of April and thank you for your support with this action. To make up that day, school will now close for the year 2015 on December the 17 th at 1:30pm. This will ensure that we meet the Ministry of Education requirements of 384 half days that the school is open for instruction. For twenty minutes at morning tea time and 30 minutes at lunchtime, student receptionists manage the school office. The students are supported by Teachers when required. When communicating a message at all times, including the answer phone, can you please give the child’s name and room number and state clearly and slowly what the message is. If communicating verbally, can you also ask for the message to be repeated back to you, to make sure that the message is exact. Finally it is with great delight that we here at Ōhaupō School would like to congratulate our past students on their current achievements in 2015: Alex Kennedy – Deputy Head Boy at Hamilton Boy’s High School Hannah Kane – School Prefect at St Peter’s Private School, Cambridge Dylan Jeffries- Year 10 Maths extension class at Hamilton Boys High School as a Year 9 student Fantastic start to the year, we are so proud of you!
