Mardi’s corner:

I thought I’d take this opportunity to introduce myself to the new members of our school community and remind the ‘old’ members of my role.

My name is Mardi Vogelsang. My first degree was in Conservation and Park Management, and I worked in that field until I started my family in 2000. I then went into teaching. I am passionate about the environment, equality and children. I believe I am here to do what I can to improve the lives of others.

This year will be my sixth year as Pastoral Support at Hahndorf. The role of a Pastoral Support worker is quite varied. I am an ‘extra’ pair of hands on excursions, I may assist in classrooms, talk with students who may be struggling with friendships, home life, school life etc. I provide practical support to families during difficult times; such as providing meals or shopping vouchers. I am ‘school photographer’ (albeit an amateur one!) at sporting events, camps and school functions. I attend training on student/staff wellbeing, and generally look for ways to help out our school community.

My Pastoral Support day this year will be Thursdays, however I am at the school most days should you need/like to contact me. You may either speak with me directly or speak with Jenny in the front office and she will arrange for me to contact you. Your child’s teacher is another way to contact me, particularly if you have concerns about your child.

I am NOT a trained counsellor but will speak to you or your child based on my experiences as a parent, and a teacher. I can provide information on where to seek further assistance if required.

I look forward to another action packed, experience rich year at Hahndorf Primary and Preschool, and getting to know you and your children.

Mardi

Friday 11th

May Mums’ Morning, 9-10am

Welcome to Preschool. We have had a lovely time getting to know everyone over the last few weeks. The Shared Tea/Acquaintance Night was also a fantastic opportunity to meet family members, see the children interact with their new peers, and share time together.

At Preschool, we have been busy learning names, the rules and routines, and how to play with each other. We have been talking to the children about their likes and dislikes, their family, and the places they like to go in the community.

We run a fun and educational program focusing on play based learning. Our planning is based on “Belonging, Being and Becoming – The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia”, which focuses on the following five Learning Outcomes:

Children have a strong sense of identity

Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

Children are confident and involved learners

Children are effective communicators

We focus on children developing their problem solving skills and being active, and engaged learners. We encourage oral language skills, especially links from oral language to written text. Numeracy skills are a focus and will be encouraged during play and everyday routines. If you would like more details, we would be happy to have a conversation with you.

Please ensure that your child has a drink bottle filled with water only, and a healthy lunch. No chips, chocolate or lollies, thank you. Please also bring a Sunsmart hat (no cords) and a change of clothes. Children are to wear adequate footwear for preschool, such as sandals or sneakers (no thongs). Please make sure that your child’s belongings are named, including their shoes.

Just a reminder that Preschool on Wednesday starts at 11am. Playgroup is held on Wednesday mornings 8:30am – 10:30am. Come and join us for a play, fruit and group time.

It would be great to have donations of cardboard boxes and clean recycling items for the children to be able to use for ‘making’. Please do not send any toilet rolls or anything that has contained nuts.

Save the date Mums’ Morning, Tuesday 8

th May,

9-10am (Red Group) and Friday 11th

May, 9-10am (Blue Group). Please join us for morning tea and a craft activity.

We look forward to another fantastic fortnight at preschool.
