Welcome Back!
A warm welcome to our school community for 2021! We trust that you
had a safe and productive holiday period and are feeling invigorated
and ready for Term 1.
This year, we welcome Billy Nathan to Mrs Scott’s classroom as he begins
his Foundation studies at Underbool Primary
School. We hope that Billy enjoys his time at
Underbool Primary and look forward to
watching him grow and thrive throughout
the school year. We were also very fortunate
to welcome Bradley and his family to Under-
bool this week. Bradley begins his Year 6
studies with us this year.
2021 Class Allocations and Staffing
There are some new faces and names joining the staff at Underbool Primary
School in 2021. We extend a warm welcome to Darcie Jordan who will be replac-
ing Colleen Aikman as the Business Manager two days a week. Below is an out-
line of class and staff allocations for the new school year—you may notice a
change to the name of the classrooms which a member of our Student Leader-
ship Team has explained in their report below!
Classroom Teaching Staff
Foundation & Year 1: Mrs Fiona Scott (Linga Room)
Years 2, 3 & 4: Ms Ashlee Morrish (Sunset Room)
Years 4, 5 & 6: Ms Gabriele Hogg and Ms Catherine Brown (Daalko Room)
Catherine will be working as a classroom teacher, extension and support class-
room tutor and Student Wellbeing Officer across four days of the school week.
Education Support Staff
Mrs Francey Brown: Education Support Officer (three days)
Ms Darcie Jordan: Business Manager (two days)
Ms Ellen Morrish: Education Support Officer (three days)
The Student Leaders Report will become a permanent fixture of the Underbool Primary
School newsletter. Each week, a member of the Student Leadership Team in Years 5 and 6
will provide an update of what has been happening in and around the classrooms!
Welcome back! This year we have had some changes to the school, like the
classrooms have different names. The Senior Room is now called Daalko as it was
the original Daalko School. The Middle Room is Sunset which is named after the
Sunset National Park. The Junior Room is Linga as it is in the direction of Linga. The
Library is Torrita as it is facing the direction of the town and the Art Room is still
called the Art Room. I hope everyone has an amazing term of learning! – written

Student Leaders Report We acknowledge the Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander peoples
the first peoples and traditional
custodians of the lands where we
live, learn and work. We pay our
respects to the Elders, both past,
present and future, for they hold
the memories, traditions, culture
and hopes of Indigenous Australi-
ans.

Principal’s Report
Welcome back to the wonderful Underbool Primary School for 2021! May
this year be safe and full of enthusiastic learning opportunities.
Assembly Assembly’s will be led by our Student Leadership Team on Fri-
day afternoons at 3pm, starting next week. Parents are welcome to join
us.
Compass We have adopted a new
web based school management
system which will be rolled out in a planned manner in weeks to come.
The system allows attendance recording, improved communications,
payment and consent, management and reporting, events scheduling
and learning and assessment. On Thursday afternoon, staff will be in-
volved in a second round of training to learn how to use the new system
effectively.
Safer Internet Day - Tuesday 9th February On Safer Internet Day the
world comes together with a shared vision of making online experiences
better for everyone. At UPS we will be participating in activities including a
virtual classroom webinar for primary schools entitled, Be an eSafe kid:
Fake news, real harms and promoting a new webinar for parents and car-
ers.
Foundation Students - Work Schedule Foundation students (those en-
rolled in their first year of Primary School education) will have each
Wednesday off throughout the month of February. This arrangement is de-
signed to support the child as
they begin to adjust to the struc-
tural routine offered in the Primary
School environment. Individual-
ised student assessments will also
take place on these days. Staff
will review the arrangement at
the end of February and the rele-
vant families will be notified if it is

Holiday Works UPS has been a very busy place during the summer school holidays with
many works being completed. We say a big thankyou to the following
members of our school community; Neill for his carpentry work in room
Daalko and around the outside of the school too, Scott Brammer and his
team for the marvellous paint job outside and in, Matt Brown for his back-
breaking solo work shovelling the stones and watering, Phil for dismantling
the outdoor eating area, fixing the shade cloth area, mowing and many
more bits, Kristy for organising floor cleaning, spraying and an expert
whole school clean. Also a thank you to those mem-
bers of our community that
picked and sold the garden
vegetables. The new outdoor
eating area is still to be erected-
hopefully soon. This is a great
school supported by a fabulous
community. Drop in and have a
look at the improvements.
Italian We will be continuing Italian with
Isabella via WebEx for 2021.
These lessons will be on Friday
mornings in the Library (Torrita Building). The classroom session times are as
follows; 9:00am – 10:00am Sunset Classroom (Years 2/3/4)
10:00am – 11:00am Daalko Classroom (Years (5/6)
11.30am – 12:30pm Linga Classroom (Foundation - Year 1)
Parking/Pick Up
Last year parents gave feedback requesting that student pick up by car
remain the same as during COVID-19 restrictions to make it safer. There-
fore, pick up will be a drive through system with a few parking spots made
available for those parents/guardians that wish to come into the school.
School/Classroom Timetable
A copy of the class timetable will be sent home once it has been finalised.
Regular reports of classroom activities will also be shared in the newsletter
and on our new Facebook page.
Student Assessments
This week, individual student assessments will be undertaken to help staff
plan and identify gaps in student learning. Students will set their own per-
sonal learning goals for the term. Assessments may include Essential As-
sessment in Maths and Language, Spelling Matters, Single Word Spelling,
Literacy and Maths Online and OnDemand.
