Change of Classes Our growing community will allow us to have an additional class at Glenorie Public School. We expect to change classes from next MONDAY (8th April), ready for next term to begin smoothly. A note will be sent home today to explain this change. We need your support… change can be unsettling for everyone. We ask that you reassure your child and let him/her know that even if they have to go with a new teacher and different children from Monday, “that everything is going to be alright!” The teachers at Glenorie Public School are all professionals; please allow each teacher time to fully assess and plan according to your child’s needs. From my personal point of view, the teachers at Glenorie are outstanding, I would be happy for my own grandchildren to be taught by any of the teachers at this great school.
Changes to the Way We Communicate Thank you to all the parents that informed us of changes to their email address, ready for the electronic delivery of our school Bulletin. Next term the Bulletin will be sent to your email address starting on Thursday 9th May and every second week thereafter. Parents still wishing a hard copy can pick one up from the front office on even weeks of the term. If you do not receive the Bulletin on 9th May, please email the office at [email protected]
The Disco’s tonight! Order your ticket on FlexiSchools and print the ticket. Put on your dancing gear. Get a few dollars for a glow stick and get ready for a fantastic time at the disco tonight. Starts at 5:30pm in the hall.
School Photos and Uniforms
As you would be aware, yesterday our school had photographers taking individual, class and whole-school photos. Please note, the process does take approximately five weeks…please be patient.
To make payment for school photos after the photo day, you can either pay online at www.theschoolphotographer.com.au (our code is X1096PSB40G or call their office on 9674 9824 and pay over the phone ($5 fee for phone payments).
I would like to thank most parents for ensuring students were dressed in full uniforms. In case you are unsure, our expectation is that ALL students wear full school uniforms each day (including school shoes and school hats). We ask that the only jewellery worn is sleepers or studs for ears and only necklaces/bracelets for religious or medical reasons. Our school has also had a fine reputation for high standards of dress; this year we intend to strengthen that reputation…thanks for your support.

Cyber-safety tips Safe passwords Encourage your child to set passwords that are easy to remember but hard to guess. The best passwords mean something memorable to you, but wouldn’t be randomly guessed by others. Select passwords that are:
Long - the more characters your password has, the lower the probability that it can be randomly cracked.
Diverse – use a range of different characters including capital letters, numbers and special characters (like a $).
Road safety
It’s important to remind children, especially younger ones, of the need to be vigilant when out and about. Talk to your child about road safety and model good behaviour yourself. Do not cross Old Northern Road unless you are at the crossing. Consider doing the right thing.
We are very lucky to be able to use the Council car park next to the school, however you must be aware of the signs and park correctly. The Council have fined people before and may do so again soon. Double parking is a safety issue for all of our children. If you are just picking up or dropping off your child, could you please use Tecoma Drive or Old Northern Road. If you cannot find a park in the Council car park, please use Tecoma Drive or Old Northern Road.
I have also noticed: Cars parked in the permanent 'no stopping'
zone on the opposite side of ONR from the school, very close to the corner of Schwebel Lane;
Cars parked in the permanent 'no standing' zone on the school side of ONR;
Cars parked in the permanent bus zone on the opposite side of ONR at the pre-school end of your school;
A parent leaving the school, entering their car and driving it towards people at the traffic signals to cross the road, texting, in my clear view for the entire distance.
For lots of good safety reminders, Kidsafe NSW has an informative website with a number of free brochures and fact sheets on maintaining a safe environment for your child and teaching them about staying safe. They are also available in several community languages. www.kidsafensw.org
Daylight savings ends on Sunday 7 April
Daylight saving will end in New South Wales on Sunday 7 April 2019 at 3:00 am, when clocks will be put back one hour.
Animals at School We have had a number of parents concerned about dogs scaring our younger students. We ask that you please do not bring dogs onto the school property (mornings and afternoon). Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
New Enrolments If you know of new families moving into the Glenorie area, please encourage them to contact the school office for enrolment forms. Only students in our catchment area should seek enrolment. Parents enrolling students will need to present birth certificates, immunization records and proof of residence (eg a rates notice).
Keeping the ANZAC
Spirit Alive As is tradition each year, our school will be commemorating ANZAC. This year our school based service will be held at school on Tuesday 30th April, at 2:00pm after the holidays. As this will be the students’ first day back at school for term 2, we ask that the students bring flowers on the day in order for us to construct wreaths for our ceremony which will be held in the hall at 2:00pm. Parents are most welcome to attend. During the holidays on ANZAC day, 25th April, Glenorie students will march from Woolworths car park at 3:00pm in summer school uniform. The captains will take part in a reading and the placing of a wreath at the cenotaph.
