The experts say that’s its never to0 late to
embrace exercise. Seniors who want to
stay strong, healthy and cut their risk of
chronic disease should get moving.
Aussies who embrace exercise in their later

From the Presidents desk
The PnF held its annual general meeting this week and the incumbent office holders were reelected. Paul Randall is now in his second term as the PnF president and has four children currently attending gymnastics. Both the secretary Veronica McKeon and the treasurer Rhonda Hooper have sons in the MAG program and have been in their respective roles for the last two years..
Like many parents, we value the
lifelong skills and friendships that
our children acquire through the
challenging sport of gymnastics.
We are committed to creating a
strong Allstar Gymnastics
community through social events
and supporting gymnasts in
various ways. If you have any
ideas that you would like to
share with us, please leave a
message at the office.

EARLY YEARS NEWS
Our themes for Term 4 are
Weeks 1 /2 Up, Down, Through and around
Weeks 3 /4 Australian Animals
Weeks 5 / 6 Springtime
Weeks 7 / 8 Fairies and Wizards
Weeks 9 / 10 Christmas
You are most welcome to dress your child in
theme appropriate clothing if you wish.
Recently I attended a workshop called
Learning Connections. Aimed at anyone
who works with children, this course
stresses the connection between learning
and movement. The activities and exercises
shown to educators to use in the
classroom are exactly what we do here in
our Early years programs – spinning, rolling,
rocking, cross patterning, crawling,
balancing ec.
So……. Your children may look like they are
just having play time in our gym, but in
reality are learning valuable skills that will
assist them all future learning.

TERM 1
Themes Weeks 5 and 6 – Space Theme. We will focus on Straight Shapes, Star shapes, Hang and Swing. Weeks 7 and 8 – Dinosaurs Theme. Gymnastics shapes using our favourite dinosaurs. Weeks 9 and 10 – Easter Theme. Roll like an Easter Egg. Hop like a bunny. Hang like a carrot.
Two fantastic Toowoomba parks you might not have visited for a while.
This weekend why not pack a picnic and head to Webb Park - it has 3 playgrounds, including a wonderfully long slippery slide and flying fox. A great chance to practice our strong hand grips ! There is a wonderful view and heaps of grass to roll about on.
Another great park is Newtown Park on Tor street. There is plenty of shade, a lovely balancing track made of wooden logs , a giant swing and climbing frame.
Early Years with Tania
What’s happening in
early years:
Movement and Learning
Studies have proven that physical activity contributes to
children’s ability to socialise, concentrate, cooperate and learn.
Fundamental movement skills are divided into three areas for
infants and toddlers.
Locomotor – moving from one place to another
Non Locomotor – where the body is stationary but different
parts move – eg balancing, spinning, pushing, reaching
Manipulative – using gross or fine motor movements to
engage with objects – eg throwing, kicking, catching
These fundamental movement skills need to be taught, and the
development of these skills offer many bonus’s such as muscle
toning, cognitive skills, special awareness, bone strength and
body awareness.
When your child attends a gymnastics class we focus on these
fundamental movement skills – balancing on beams, jumping on
trampolines, hopping on one foot, swinging around and hanging
from bars, catching and throwing, standing upside down and lots
lots more.

MAG (Mens Gymnastics)
Welcome back to another exciting year with Allstar gymnastics. Thank you all for your patience during what has been a very busy rebooking time for 2017. I hope we are all settled into our new groups for term 1 and are ready for a big year. Competition season for our SNR boys is fast approaching with Regional championships at Brisbane grammar in 5 weeks. The Gymnasts are working hard on upgrading their routines in order to gain qualification into State championships and hopefully into the state team for Australian championships in Melbourne later in the year. Congratulations to Patrick Rudd on his competition performance with the Australian team over in Las-Vegas. Patricks team came 5th overall and he was able to achieve some apparatus placings as well. Due to popular demand the MAG program has organised a sleep over for All our Allstar members. 25th March 3.30pm to 26th March 10.00am $40.00 dinner and breakfast provided. Forms are on the website and the school stream app.

Gymfun is an educational gymnastics program that incorporates elements of all gymnastics disciplines. It is relevant for children between the ages of 4-6 and offers the perfect complement to any sporting or lifestyle activity. Gymfun is inspired by the national “Gymnastics For All” program that encourages participants to enjoy a range of apparatus and activities including Trampoline, Bars, Beam, Vault and Floor. Gymfun focuses on fundamental movement patterns that help children to progress onto the more advanced skills or sports. Our Gymfun games and activities are safe and encourage children to work together as a team and to also build self esteem.
Welcome back to 2017 everyone—it has been a busy three weeks to start the term with lots of new faces joining us and many more known faces returning for another year of Gymnastics FUNdamentals, Fitness, and Friendships. At Allstars we pride ourselves on being able to focus on enriching the lives of all our members in many different ways. We primarily focus on the teaching of quality gymnastics however we provide the opportunities for our gymnasts to grow individually into confident, disciplined and adaptable people that are ready to tackle anything they set their minds to. One way we do this is by fostering the growth of friendships. Childhood friendships are incredibly important as they provide children so many benefits including (but not limited to)...
All of these things will in turn help increase your child’s wisdom, confidence, self esteem and adaptability to different situations. It also leaves them with some very special memories for when they are reminiscing about their childhood later in life. You may notice our Pre-Warm Up activities beginning at 3.20pm (or 8.50am on Saturdays); this is an excellent time for your children to get to know all of our coaches, as well as build friendships with their team mates and children from other classes in a fun environment. If you are finding your son or daughter is a bit shy at the beginning of the lesson or is having trouble making friends in their class this is a great time for them to have some fun and make friends, sit and watch to help feel a bit more settled or have a chat with some coaches or teammates without the pressure of needing to participate.

COMPETITION LEVELS NEWS
WAG NEWS (Womens Gymnastics)
It’s been a busy start to the year already and
we are only finishing week 3!
The senior gymnasts are in competition
preparation already with their first practice
event being held on 11th March in Brisbane.
The girls have been working hard trying to
master all of their new skills for this year.
There are always some “crash” landings
during this time but to their credit they keep
getting up and coming back for more. Keep up
the great work ladies - we are nearly there!
You may have seen that the 2017 competition
nomination forms have been sent out. Thank
you to those who have already returned this
but if you haven’t please do so asap as your
child will not be nominated for events without
the return of this form.
Even through we are only in February it feels like the girls in the Levels program have been in the gym and making achievements for much longer. It was great to see the girls pushing through the heat during the holidays to use their time in the near empty gym—this is such a great opportunity for the girls as it allows them to be a bit free-er with their training while they have the chance to spread out across apparatus and spend some extra time focusing on the areas they need to. Well done to all the girls who have been celebrating strength, flexibility and skill improvements over the last few weeks, we are all very excited to see how many more great things these Allstar Gymnasts can achieve in 2017!
