For 14 years the Teach Children to Save pro-gram has partnered banks with students for les-sons on the importance of saving. Last year, the American Bankers Association Education Foundation established the Million Child Chal-lenge — challenging bankers to teach saving lessons to 1 million students by the end of 2009. That goal was achieved in early Decem-ber.

This year, the ABAEF is encour-aging bankers to reach five million students before the end of 2011, the 15th anniversary of Teach Children to Save. The 2010 National Teach Children to Save Day is scheduled for April 27, and TBA is asking all banks in the state to participate.

The ABA Education Foundation established Teach Children to Save Day to spotlight the im-portance of teaching our nation’s youth about saving money. The event occurs every April when bankers make presentations to students in grades K – 12 about budgeting, saving, recog-nizing needs and wants, and how interest makes money grow.

Since the first TCTS over 80,000 bankers have reached nearly 3.4 million students across the country, providing them with money skills they’ll use throughout life. Do your part and help your community by visiting a classroom, church group, or youth group and sharing sav-ings lessons.

You can use your unique set of skills to help

National Teach Children to Save Day Is April 27address a serious problem in our nation, the lack of financial literacy. Plus, it’s fun! It’s an opportunity to reach out to your communities and give young people the tools and inspiration for a successful financial future.

If your bank has participated in the past, pledge to add 10 in 2010. Together we can reach another million students and redefine real banking for the next generation.

Be sure to register your partic-ipation with ABA at http://www.aba.com/ABAEF/TCTSRegistra-
