If I were to offer one piece of advice for making this Holy Week meaningful, it would be to attend our Good Friday service this week at 7:00 pm. Without a doubt, this is my favorite service of the year. This service does me more good, and prepares me better for Easter Sunday, than any Lenten resolution I have ever made.
We gather for this service because it was on the Friday before Easter that Jesus was killed. At this service we remember the events of the day that lead up to Jesus’ death on the cross. We also remember Jesus’ words to his disciples on Maundy Thursday, the day be-fore Jesus’ death, when he gathered with them in the upper room for the last supper. (The word Maundy means instruction, and refers to the instructions that Jesus gave to his disciples during this supper to love each other at much as he had loved them – John 15:12).
Our service on Friday is called a Tenebrae service (Tenebrae is Latin for “darkness” or “shadow”). Through scripture, music, the sharing of communion, and the extinguishing of candles we will remember how Jesus spent the hours before his death. Not only will this service remind us of the terrible events of Good Friday, it will also leaves us with the hope that there is something better on the way, Jesus’ victory over death, which we celebrate on Easter Sunday (and every Sunday).
So I hope to see you on Friday at 7:00 and on Easter Sunday as we remember those astounding events that first occurred almost 2,000 years ago.
In Faith,
David

New Sunday School Class Starting April 27th
The focus of this class will be Bible study, service, and creating a welcoming fellowship.
All adults are welcome, but we hope that this class will provide a needed small group fellowship for our younger adults, both married and single, as well as those adults who wish to be out of
class on time for our 11:11 worship service.
We will meet in the Family Life Center, in the classroom next to the water fountains.

Stewardship Moments What do you think Christian Stewardship means? Most would equate this term to mean giving 10% of
their income to the Church. This is only a partial explanation, in reality it is a response we make in grati-
tude to God for what he has given to us. It is an intentional, planned, proportionate giving of our treasure,
time and talents. Get thinking about Stewardship and we will have a Stewardship Moment written by each
of the Stewardship Committee Members in the coming Newsletters.
God Bless,
Bobby D. Shields
Stewardship Chairman
Dear Rolanda, Mike, Katy, Wayne, Scott, Eric, and Greg Martin ,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your steadfast commitment and service as our Praise Team
during these past six months, which kept our contemporary worship joyful and inspirational with music
and singing. Also, big thanks to Greg Renfro, Angie, Craig, Len, and Karen, who made great contributions
during this time, even while juggling busy schedules and other life challenges. Each of you will forever be
in my heart for providing a wonderful worship experience for our church family; and I am excited about
the future as I imagine you working with Andy Fletcher in the weeks, months and years to come. May
God bless you as you have blessed KHCC.
Yours in Discipleship,
Bonnie Martin, KHCC Worship Chair

Lenten Devotions From Kings Highway Members Reprinted from 1997 Holy Week - God’s Amazing Grace Lenten season should be a time of “adding” some-thing, “putting on” something! A time of reflection and renewal. It’s a time of year when even nature tells us that we must ready ourselves, turn ourselves over to God and become new creatures in Him! The enormity of God’s great gift to us is awesome. . .His amazing grace is simply that. . .amazing!!!
We need to take this “walk with our Lord” . . .go through the villages and towns, be one of the crowd, follow Him into that tumultuous and exciting entry into Jerusalem with palms and Hosannas and hail to the Messiah (or is He?. . .one of the questions being whispered among those Hosannas); go on with Him to that Upper Room where he met for the last time with those special twelve. Even they could not com-prehend what was happening and they were the closest to Him! One of them turned Him over to the authorities. Can you imagine the pain this must have caused not only Jesus, but Judas as well? Continue with Him as He agonized in the Garden of Geth-semane, asking the question himself. . .but giving in to His father’s will. Try to feel the anguish as the sol-diers arrested Him, the people shouted awful things at Him and even those closest to Him deserted Him! They didn’t know Him, they denied Him! Go on with Him to Pilate’s palace and, if you can, ask yourself what decision you would have made.
On this drama goes and it is certainly hard to imagine that on the same path where palms were strewn, He carried His own cross with people shouting terrible words and spitting on Him. . .the Son of God!!! He
went up that hill to Calvary, where they split His palms with huge spikes, stabbed Him with a sword. . .they had already put a crown of thorns on His head. . . And the soldiers even put vinegar into those wounds and into His robe, for it was the robe of the “King of the Jews”!
Jesus, the Son of God, hung on a cross, died there that awful day and His father was so heartbroken! His other, the disciple who He loved and the other Marys all knew that He was gone! They did not un-derstand the word He kept telling them, that they had been hearing! How could this be!?! They placed Him in the tomb and early on that Sunday morning, those same women went to the tomb to anoint that precious body with oils and spices. They were greeted by two angels of the Lord who told them that He was not there! He had risen! That huge stone was rolled away! Only then did they really begin to comprehend that Jesus was indeed the Son of God, that He had gone through this horrible ordeal for them and all others and that He had indeed over-come even death!!! “What wondrous love is this, O my soul!!!”
Can we become “new creatures”. . .put off the old, put on the new? Only through this love, this amazing grace can we do this. Will you walk with Him in that garden, on that path and accept this love, this grace? It’s ours! Thank God!!!
