Six days you shall labor and do all your

the alien within your gates.

Are we to observe
this fourth
commandment?
![Page 33: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Nowhere in the
New Testament are
we commanded to
observe the Old
Testament
Sabbath.
![Page 34: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
Romans 14:5
One person considers one day
more sacred than another;
another considers every day
alike. Each of them should be fully
convinced in their own mind.
![Page 35: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
Colossians 2:16-17
Therefore do not let anyone judge
you by what you eat or drink, or with
regard to a religious festival, a New
Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.
These are a shadow of the things
that were to come; the reality,
however, is found in Christ.
![Page 36: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
Are we to observe
this fourth
commandment?
No, but . . .
![Page 37: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
The New Testament
church did begin to
observe Sunday as
a day marked out
from other days:
a day to gather
together for
worship and
instruction.
![Page 38: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
Acts 20:7
On the first day of the week we came together to break bread.
Paul spoke to the people and,
because he intended to leave the
next day, kept on talking until
midnight.
![Page 39: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/39.jpg)
1 Corinthians 16:1
Now about the collection for God's
people: Do what I told the Galatian
churches to do.
![Page 40: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/40.jpg)
1 Corinthians 16:2
On the first day of every
week, each one of you should
set aside a sum of money in
keeping with his income, saving it
up, so that when I come no
collections will have to be made.
![Page 41: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/41.jpg)
Revelation 1:10
On the Lord’s Day I was in the
Spirit . . .
![Page 42: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
Ignatius of Antioch
(disciple of the
Apostle John)
In 114 AD he wrote that
Christians were to be“no longer
living for the Sabbath, but for
the LORD’S DAY.”
![Page 43: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/43.jpg)
Can we, should we
forget the whole
concept of the Old
Testament Sabbath?
![Page 44: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/44.jpg)

The Lord’s Day can become the
most important day of our week, if
we use it for our desperately
needed R & R!

Leviticus 23:3
There are six days when you may
work, but the seventh day is a day
of sabbath rest, a day of sacred
assembly.
![Page 47: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/47.jpg)
Q 103. “What is God’s will
for you in the fourth
commandment?”
A. “. . . and that, especially on
the festive day of rest, I
regularly attend the assembly
of God’s people to learn what
God’s Word teaches . . .”
![Page 48: Ten words of grace #4 june 12, 2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051412/54b3160a4a7959d5198b4687/html5/thumbnails/48.jpg)
The Lord’s Day is graciously given
to us by God as a day for R & R!
