Agenda
1. Background
2. Temporary PSA Grower Training Course Policy
3. Online PSA Grower Training Course
4. Questions
5
Background
• Currently, PSA Grower Training registrations are only approved for in-person courses
• Growers need access to courses during this time of geographic restriction and social distancing strategies to slow the spread of COVID-19
• It is imperative that courses be available, provided for growers in a high-quality manner, and that they do not increase public health risks
6
Temporary Policy • https://producesafetyalliance.cornell.edu/training/
covid-19-outbreak-temporary-policy/ • PSA is temporarily allowing remote delivery of PSA
Grower Training Courses during the COVID-19 pandemic • This policy will be in effect until May 31, 2020
– Will be modified as more information is available
• PSA reserves the right to revise or rescind the remote delivery option for individual trainers or teams based on evaluations – Failure to submit evaluations will also result in loss of remote
delivery option

Evaluation Details and Importance
• All courses need to be evaluated! • Two options for getting evaluations to participants
– Trainer sends them with course # on them – Bookstore can send a blank one to participants
• Trainer will need to add the course # before they go back to AFDO
• Participants will need to send them back to the trainer. Trainer can bundle them & send to AFDO
• Key way to verify the trainings are high quality • PSA will be monitoring evaluations

New Course Policies
Specific to Remote Delivery
Remote Delivery Course Options, Registration, and Advertising
• Entirely remote vs. hybrid remote (not recommended) • PSA Lead Trainer(s) must provide clear and prominent
language in the course advertisement(s) and registration information that the course is to be delivered remotely – Must remind participants that:
• They must be present during all modules of the course to receive the PSA/AFDO certificate of course completion
• Attendance and engagement will be monitored throughout the course (i.e., need a computer with a webcam)
19
Technology Requirements • Audio/visual
– Platform must include a two-way video and audio component – All participants must have functioning video cameras, speakers
and microphones, and/or headsets
• Technical support – At least one member of the training team must be comfortable
handling (and troubleshooting) the web-based platform
• Hybrid format (Trainer(s) off site, group(s) of participants) – On-site trainers or staff must ensure the presenter can be heard
and can hear questions from the audience – PSA Lead Trainer must be able to hear all presentations and all
questions
20
Participant Attendance & Engagement
• All remote courses must appoint a course monitor to verify participant engagement and attendance – Take attendance at the beginning of the course – Take attendance periodically throughout the course to ensure all
participants are present and engaged – Keep track of participant engagement through the video
functionality of the web-based interface
• The training team can alternate serving as course monitor when they are not presenting, or dedicate a staff member to serve as the course monitor
21
Course Audits & Lead Trainer Responsibilities
• PSA reserves the right to: – Conduct course audits – Suspend and/or permanently revoke
PSA Lead Trainer status if information from evaluations, other trainers, or participant comments indicate that PSA policies were not followed
22

• Designate time at the beginning of the course for participants to practice raising hands, muting/unmuting audio, typing in the chat
• Be sensitive to privacy concerns • See additional suggestions in the policy document on the
PSA website producesafetyalliance.cornell.edu/training/ covid-19-outbreak-temporary-policy/
