First Sunday of Advent Primer Domingo de Adviento

November 29, 2020

First Reading Isaiah 63:16-17, 19; 64:2-7 You, LORD, are our father, our redeemer you are named forever. Why do you let us wander, O LORD, from your ways, and harden our hearts so that we fear you not? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage. Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, with the mountains quaking before you, while you wrought awesome deeds we could not hope for, such as they had not heard of from of old. No ear has ever heard, no eye ever seen, any God but you doing such deeds for those who wait for him. Would that you might meet us doing right, that we were mindful of you in our ways! Behold, you are angry, and we are sinful; all of us have become like unclean people, all our good deeds are like polluted rags; we have all withered like leaves, and our guilt carries us away like the wind. There is none who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to cling to you; for you have hidden your face from us and have delivered us up to our guilt. Yet, O LORD, you are our father; we are the clay and you the potter: we are all the work of your hands.

The readings for this weekend.

Mass Intentions for the Week Because of the frequent updates to health regulations, and Masses being cancelled, some Mass intentions that had been requested earlier for specific Masses, will be included in any and all of the public and private Masses that our priests celebrate this week. Laura Massa Bishop Francis Quinn Mario Silveira Josephine Rodriguez Ma Man Woo Juan Esteban Lopez

We include, in all the Masses this week, the individuals and families, who have continued to support St. Rose parish financially during this pandemic, even though they have been

unable to attend Mass physically.

Why are we still waiting for Jesus? Didn’t he come already, born of Mary in a Bethlehem stable? Well, yes, he did, and we will celebrate that wonderful event on Christmas, just as Christians have been doing for two thousand years. In this season of Advent, Scripture reminds us that we are also looking forward to the coming of the Lord at the end of time. Advent is not just about something that happened long ago or only about what will happen sometime in the future, for Jesus is coming to us right now,. Through the Bible, through our prayers as a church, and as a family, Jesus comes to us as often as we open our hearts to him. So while we count the days to December 25 and look forward to the day Christ will return in glory, let’s not wait to invite him into our hearts and homes today. Do it right now.

ADVENT—Waiting in Hope

Lord Jesus, prepare our hearts to receive you, today and every day of our lives. Amen.

Second Reading 1 Corinthians 3-9 Brothers and sisters: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Show us Lord, your love; and grant us your salvation. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel Mark 13: 33-37 Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’”

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION O Jesus, I turn toward the holy tabernacle where You live hidden for love of me.

I love You, O my God. I cannot receive You in Holy Communion. Come nevertheless, and visit me with Your grace. Come spiritually into my heart. Purify it.

Sanctify it. Render it like unto Your own. Amen.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 80: 2-3,15-16,18-19 R. (4) Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved. O shepherd of Israel, hearken, from your throne upon the cherubim, shine forth. Rouse your power, and come to save us. R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved. Once again, O LORD of hosts, look down from heaven, and see; take care of this vine, and protect what your right hand has planted the son of man whom you yourself made strong. R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved. May your help be with the man of your right hand, with the son of man whom you yourself made strong. Then we will no more withdraw from you; give us new life, and we will call upon your name. R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

HELPERS NEEDED for COVID-19 regulations at Masses.

Can you help sign in people 20 min.

before Masses, or greet/escort people to their places,

or clean-up and sanitize surfaces afterwards?

We cannot hold Masses without

this kind of help. Please call Julia at (916) 740-9393

and tell her you will help.

W e are very grateful to those who have contin-

ued to support our parish dur-ing these long months of being unable to celebrate Mass as we

did before COVID 19. Because Mass attendance has decreased, the offertory collections are also much less. As a comparison, income for the month of October was $28,403.56 (an average of $7,100.89 per week). Because of the many steps we have taken to reduce expenses, the amount we need per week is now $8,400.00. Much better. We hope you will continue to help us. It is still possible to make your offertory dona-tion by sending it thru the mail to: St. Rose Church, P. O. Box 246070, Sacramento, CA 95824 or online at our parish website: stroseinsacramento.com. Donations can even be dropped into the black secure mailbox outside the rectory entrance.

Prayer for Advent O Lord, may we stay alert as we anticipate the joyful celebration of your son’s arrival into the world. Help us to stay ever watchful, like the gatekeeper. May we accept your mercy and carry it with us as we prepare for the coming of our infant Savior. Amen.
