SUPERNOVABY PETRA KRAUSOVAThe breathtaking Supernova, an interactive kinetic installation by designer Petra Krausova, introduces the future into the present. It magically transforms itself in both time and space, responding to the viewer’s movement by changing its form. The installation is composed of clear glass elements with linear texture that creates fascinating light patterns while moving through various angles.

Supernova’s overall shape pays homage to last year’s kinetic sculpture, Alice. Supernova invites us to look beyond the glass. Its beauty comes alive with unexpected movement and refraction of light. When exploring the universe, scientists use prismatic refraction in order to identify a supernova’s composition, temperature, pressure, density and expansion. Here, it’s up to the viewer to look through the glass and into the light, aware that this creative burst is likely to outshine its galaxy. ———

Petra Krausova (born 1986) searches for inspiration not only in materials and technology but also in the seemingly opposing topics of tradition and futurism. The Lasvit designer and co-founder of the new lifestyle brand Newintage focuses mainly on the design of furniture, products and futuristic concepts. Apart from stories and, at first sight, hidden ambiguities, her experience working for major designers and architects such as Tord Boontje, Michael Sodeau, Eva Jiricna and Bang&Olufsen is also reflected in her creations.

CANDY COLLECTION BY CAMPANA BROTHERSThe Candy collection builds on the colorful universe of the Campana Brothers’ Sushi series, but explores and expresses it through glass, a material that has fascinated them since childhood. They found inspiration for this collection in the colorful candies sold in popular markets in Brazil. This initial concept was enthusiastically received by Czech glass-masters, always ready to explore new techniques and visions. The Candy collection includes Sphere chandelier, Ring chandelier and Lollipop table lamp, all conceived and produced in hand-blown glass and metal. ———

Campana Brothers — founded in 1983 in Sao Paulo by brothers Fernando (born 1961) and Humberto (born 1953) Campana, Estudio Campana became famous for its furniture design and the creation of intriguing objects such as the Vermelha and Favela chairs and has grown to include Interior Design, Architecture, Landscaping, Scenography, Fashion, Artistic Partnerships and more. The Campanas work incorporates the idea of transformation, reinvention and the integration of craftsmanship in mass production. Giving preciousness to common materials carries not only the creativity in their design but also their very Brazilian characteristics – the colors, the mixtures, the creative chaos, the triumph of simple solutions. Campana pieces are included in the permanent collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the MoMa in New York, the Musée Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in Sao Paulo and also the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. The brothers were honored with the Designer of the Year award in 2008 by Design Miami and the Designers of the Year Maison & Objet award in 2012. That same year they were selected for the Comité Colbert Prize in Paris, honored at Beijing Design Week, received the Order of Cultural Merit in Brasilia and were awarded the Order of Arts and Letters by the Minister of Culture in France. In 2013 they were listed among the top 100 most influential Brazilian personalities by Forbes magazine, and in 2014 Wallpaper* ranked them among the top 100 major players in design.

FUNGO CHANDELIER BY CAMPANA BROTHERSThe Fungo chandelier was inspired by the fascinating shape of a mushroom growing on wood. Yet this mushroom didn’t grow in the forest, but was discovered in the basement of Lasvit’s glassworks, where an ancient wooden glassblowing mold had succumbed to the ravages of humidity. The Campana Brothers chose to blend this newfound accidental theme with Lasvit’s glassmaking tradition and fuse their techniques with natural materials. The resulting artwork displays a striking contrast between the formal rigidity of the chandelier’s wooden structure and the blown-glass that appears to emerge spontaneously from the wood. ———

POLYGON BY JAN PLECHAC & HENRY WIELGUSPolygon expresses light, glass and the glass-cutter’s art in perfect harmony. Combining the traditional shape of a hand- blown glass lampshade with the polygonal network often used in 3D modeling programs, Polygon creates a new and unusual décor with two distinct looks. In the daytime, light gently refracts from its matte surface, while at night the interior light source reveals the elegance of the design in full detail. ———

HATS BY deFORMReminiscent of the late Victorian bowler hat, Hats concept combines the demand for absolute practicality with simplicity of design. Inspired by the industrial lighting and street lamps in European cities, Hats carries a subtle sense of familiarity. Its transparent colored glass topper lights the ceiling while the clear bottom is starkly utilitarian. Hats’ sections are connected by three industrial-style custom screws, paying homage to its original inspiration. Inside, a translucent light bulb softens and evenly distributes the light. Hats is the ideal designer-light for even the smallest interiors or a perfect unit to combine into groups. ———

DAS POP LIGHTBY MAARTEN BAASWith this piece Maarten Baas looked toward classic, recognizable shapes, yet with a modern and almost comic twist. Technically it’s a unique joint-venture between the classic hand-blown glass by Lasvit and the clay-covered arms by Baas and his production team from Den Herder Production House. ———

Dimensions / Dia 175 × 270 + LLight source / G9 halogen 25WWeight / 3 kgPrimary material / Hand-blown glass, stainless steel, black clay

Maarten Baas graduated from the Eindhoven Design Academy in 2002 with his Smoke series. Instantly, this burned-furniture collection became world famous. That success was followed by several solo shows, highlighted by Clay Furniture in 2006 and Real Time in 2009. In 2009, Maarten Baas was awarded “Designer of the Year” in Miami. His works are in major museum collections, such as the Victoria & Albert, MoMa, Rijksmuseum and Les Arts Decoratifs. „Beauty and ugliness is something that I find interesting,“ Baas explains. „I sometimes try to shake up the way we see things, to kind of ‚reset‘ it.“

DROPLETS BY JAN PLECHAC & HENRY WIELGUSInspired by nature, emotion and a unique frozen moment, this lighting sculpture reminds us of our fascination with water. It captures the perfection of the natural movement when water collects into a drop. The entire composition, as well as the individual elements and their shapes play with the magic of water, air and gravity. The harmonious density gradient highlights this instant, providing sensations of depth and motion. ———

BONBON BY MARIA CULENOVA HOSTINOVABonbon catches your eye with its hand-blown glass shade reminiscent of a candy wrapper, playfully crimped at the top. This elegant cover is supported by a cut-crystal core lighted element in the shape of a hard-candy. The clean shape of Bonbon and superb quality of its execution speaks to Lasvit’s dedication to perfection. A reminder of that special moment we unwrap a favorite candy, Bonbon combines a playful theme with an engagingly delicate form. ———

Maria Culenova Hostinova— with a fondness for elements that resemble real life, the designer Maria Culenova Hostinova (born 1981) enjoys working with different combinations of technicality and biomorphic aesthetics. Her interest in structures and textures of materials makes Maria an innovative artist with a lot to share. She enjoys using materials in unorthodox ways to create one-of-a-kind designs, and believes pureness must always follow the consequence and significance of creative work. Her design background includes work for Moravian glass works Kvetna, Nike Europeans and Futurista Universum, to name but a few. She also has extensive experience at international exhibitions. Some of Maria Culenova Hostinova’s awards and recognition include the Whirlpool Appliance Competition, Rosenthal Design Award and Bombay Sapphire Prize.

WELL BY MEJD STUDIOWell is light inspired by traditional water wells. It takes the principle of the simple wooden handle mechanism winding of the rope and thus changing its distance or the bulbs depth inside the glass container like the bucket singing into the water. In the case of lower positions, the light becomes gradient blue while, in the second variant, it goes from clear transparent to sanded matte. ———

MEJD is product design brand founded in 2011 by Stefan Nosko and Katarina Belickova currently based in Bratislava, Slovakia. Their work is about seeking for new solutions and views on product design, creating objects which besides functionality and aesthetics offer ideas and stories behind each of them. Their ambition is to create objects of ordinary life, inspired by this ordinarity but reaching a non-ordinary results.

STREAMER BY TANA DVORAKOVABuilding on Lasvit’s signature Twill concept that weaves thousands of crystal beads together into a fabric-like texture, designer Tana Dvorakova created a unique wall piece called Streamer. The faceted fine-crystal beads are arranged into a ribbon that playfully twists and turns to give the installation additional depth. The high lead content and precise hand-crafting of the beads ensure an unusual refraction of light, reflecting all colors of rainbow as the viewer passes by. Streamer captures the motion of a gymnast’s ribbon, gracefully flowing through the air and brings a sense of movement through its play of light. ———

Tana Dvorakova (born 1983), one of Lasvit’s most prominent designers, focuses her creations on designer light fixtures for prestigious spaces in both private and public architecture. Tana takes her inspiration primarily from nature and the world of the Orient. Her work shows characteristics of jewelry-like decors and graceful curves, emerging either in the form of climbing plant stems or coiled snakes. Dvorakova’s designs are noble-minded and uniquely precise. She expresses herself in a modern style, although her creations maintain a sense of grace and charm. Her works can be seen in private residences and palaces, as well as theatres, hotels and public spaces all over the world.

CRYSTAL ROCK BY ARIK LEVYNot from the Stone Age but closer to Kryptonite, Crystal Rock appears in the cave of the future as an ambassador of the fusion between nature and man, light and reflection, transparency and mass. All these characteristics are gathered within a perfectly cut, yet roughly sculpted contemporary silex that interacts between light and darkness, suspended in the air like a frozen shooting star. It‘s as if the world stood still at the very moment you gaze upon it, the multiple reflections and deflections fascinating during the day and even more dynamic at night, when lighted. ———

Arik Levy (born 1962) is an artist, technician, photographer, designer and filmmaker. Levy‘s skills are multi-disciplinary and his work can be seen in prestigious galleries and museums worldwide. Best known publicly for his sculptures – such as his signature Rock pieces - his installations, limited editions and design, Levy nevertheless feels that „the world is about people, not objects“.

FROZENBY MAXIM VELCOVSKYThe Frozen collection was inspired by the transformation of water into ice. This moment is similar to work in a glassmaker shop. Creating a solid object from a liquid material is an essential characteristic of glass. Each designer attempts a small miracle –turning liquid glass to solid form. Velcovsky allows the glass to spill over a metal form and seeks advantage in its natural properties. Each piece traces a unique record of the process, becoming an original. Maxim found inspiration among pieces of ice created by nature and applied that element of randomness in nature to his craft in the context of glassmaking. The result is a ‘frozen’ sculpture, combining the richness of glass textures, wrinkled details, bubbles and varied thicknesses. ———

MOULDS BY JAN PLECHAC & HENRY WIELGUSMoulds is a collection of suspended lights, showcasing Czech crystal at its most resilient and lively form. The series captures a specific moment when molten glass resists its expected shape and freely escapes from the mould as a random, amorphous bubble. The energizing effect of this series arises from the contrast of used materials, using the traditional craft techniques of blowing crystal glass into a beech form. The Moulds collection brings powerful emotions into an interior. The composition of varied ‘overblown’ shapes creates a particularly striking visual effect. Integrated LED light sources were set directly within the charred form, creating an impression that the heat and energy of the glassmaker’s kiln remained inside, in historic reference to the art of Czech glassmakers. ———
