Soil  Type(s)

•  Contains  some  of  the  poorest  soils  of  all.    The  type  of  soils  the  Deciduous  Forest  contains  are  rocky  soil  and  sandy  soils.

Major  Plants  and  Crops

•  The  American  Beech  is  one  of  the  common  plants  that  grow  in  Deciduous  forests.    It  is  a  tree  that  grows  in  the  southern  and  eastern  parts  of  the  United  States.  It  grows  best  in  deep,  rich,  moist,  well-‐drained  soils.

Special/Endangered  Plants

•  Along  with  trees  being  in  these  forests  there's  a  downfall  with  plants  that  can  be  dangerous  that  grow  with  these  trees.    Poison  Ivy  and  Poison  Oak  are  in  the  forms  of  vines  and  leaves  that  grow  mostly  along  trees  and  on  the  ground.

Special/  Endangered  Animals

•  Red  wolves,  dis?nguished  by  their  reddish  fur,  are  an  endangered  species  of  the  temperate  deciduous  forests.  They  are  threatened  mainly  by  human  ac?vity  and  interbreeding  with  coyotes.

Major  Threats/Conserva?on  Efforts

•  A  main  problem  with  Deciduous  Forests  is  the  removal  of  trees  by  certain  people.    These  people  cut  down  the  trees  and  use  the  wood  for  their  own  personal  use.    This  is  called  Deforesta?on.
