Loca?on
• Can be found in the eastern half of North America, and the middle of Europe.
Climate-‐
• The average annual temperature in a deciduous forest is 50° F. The average rainfall is 30 to 60 inches a year.
Topography
• Has River Plains, Small Mountains, Hills, and Valleys.
Soil Type(s)
• Contains some of the poorest soils of all. The type of soils the Deciduous Forest contains are rocky soil and sandy soils.
Major Plants and Crops
• The American Beech is one of the common plants that grow in Deciduous forests. It is a tree that grows in the southern and eastern parts of the United States. It grows best in deep, rich, moist, well-‐drained soils.
Special/Endangered Plants
• Along with trees being in these forests there's a downfall with plants that can be dangerous that grow with these trees. Poison Ivy and Poison Oak are in the forms of vines and leaves that grow mostly along trees and on the ground.
Major Animals
• Some common animals that are in Temperate Deciduous Forests are Black bears, raccoons, Gray Squirrels, White-‐Tailed Deer, Wild Boars, Rat Snakes, and Wild Turkey.
Special/ Endangered Animals
• Red wolves, dis?nguished by their reddish fur, are an endangered species of the temperate deciduous forests. They are threatened mainly by human ac?vity and interbreeding with coyotes.
Major Threats/Conserva?on Efforts
• A main problem with Deciduous Forests is the removal of trees by certain people. These people cut down the trees and use the wood for their own personal use. This is called Deforesta?on.
