Temecula Presents’ sixth season at the Old Town Temecula Community Theaterbegins early this year with the All Star Big Band adding a summer concertfeaturing pop songs arranged in the style of the classic big band sound. And sowe embark on another season and celebrate the adventure of live performance.

And what an adventure it can be, especially for the curious. I’ve had patronsthank me time and time again for introducing them to artists new to them.Several patrons told me that blues artist Dennis Jones, who played for us last season in ourFriday Night Groove series, entertained with the greatest guitar playing they ever heard!The world abounds with stellar musicians every bit as accomplished as those at the top ofthe charts, and we work to find a small sample of these extraordinarily talented artists to bepart of Temecula Presents’ season each year.

Our Dance series – four top-notch, professional contemporary dance companies eachseason – has garnered some notoriety of late as we are one of the few to have beenselected to participate in InnerState, a state-wide dance project funded by the James IrvineFoundation. It may take an adventurous spirit to venture into a dance concert for the firsttime, but the likelihood is that you will be amazed and yearn to return. In the words of oneof our patrons: “...so that is what a body could look like. My husband was on the edge ofhis seat!”

Certainly, no performance adventure would be complete without a journey to the world ofclassical music. With new talent joining our Classical series this season, you will be treatedto varying interpretations of this lush and provocative music that instinctively creates a senseof cultural memory that transcends mere nostalgia.

Like his mentor, T-BoneBurnett, Joe Henry has the uncanny ability to bring out the best ineveryone he works with, having proven that by producing late-careermasterpieces for the likes of Solomon Burke, Bettye LaVette, and mostrecently, Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Yet, this reputation has not come at theexpense of his own career as a singer-songwriter, which over the pasttwo decades has seen him undergo a transformation from country-rocktroubadour to visionary audio-poet specializing in arcane Americana.

Henry's musical style spans several genres, including alternative country,rock, jazz and folk. A two-time Grammy-winning producer, Henry ismarried to Melanie Ciccone, sister of Madonna, since 1987. Harry James was one of the most outstanding instrumentalists of theswing era, employing a bravura playing style that made his trumpet work instantly identifiable. The flawless, technicallyoutstanding trumpeter played for the Benny Goodman Band before forming his own band in 1939 with gifted but little knownvocalist, Frank Sinatra. He was one of the most popular bandleaders of the first-half of the 1940s, and he continued to lead hisband until just before his death, 40 years later.

This concert takes us back to the days when Harry James was on top. Fantastic singer, Cassie Miller, and Doc Jack Poster (asHarry James) will wow you with their tributes to this Big Band era. Trumpeter Doc Jack Poster was a former lead trumpet withthe Harry James Orchestra (1969-1971). A multi-media show features images, videos, and sounds in a music concert featuringall of Harry’s history and hits, which remain the most popular music of the era.

Troy Clarke and Brian Nova will be out front with The All Star Big Band living the music of Old Blue Eyes. They will perform at least adozen of Frank’s greatest hits including For Once In My Life, The Lady Is A Tramp, My Way, I Get A Kick Out Of You and Luck Be A LadyTonight. The All Star Big Band, featuring some of the greatest sidemen ever to grace a stage, will be swinging hot instrumentals as wellas backing the vocalists with those wonderful Sinatra arrangements.
