Temaline Solutions

Section 5.: Access Control Solutions

Honeywell’s total new concept in access control, integrated security solutions and security system communications.

Temaline re-defines the concept of access control sub-systems for the future by bringing enhanced performance and reliability

to installations. Temaline establishes a new benchmark in providing secure solutions to protect people, property and assets.

The complete modularity of the system frees the peripheral and field devices from reliance on the central supervisory system

for all access control functionality and relieves the supervisory system of card transaction processing.

Most systems today have too

many vulnerabilities. A failure of the

central supervisory system or loss of

communications causes untold problems in

any organisation.

Availability

Peer-to-peer communication allows the

system to work autonomously and completely

without degradation of performance or

security, without the supervisory system.

System availability is furthermore enhanced

by a ‘Shared Load’ concept undertaken by

smart TemaServers. When one TemaServer

fails another ‘takes over’ the management

of its TemaKeys, without suffering any

degraded operation in the system. A

removable FlashEprom cartridge guarantees

complete data recovery on any TemaServer.

Expandability

From small to large complex facilities, there

is a need for a flexible solution. System

installations are ‘living’ entities, constantly

changing and expanding to meet the facility

environment. Temaline’s design concepts

of modularity and openness address this

requirement exactly. When expansion

is required, simply add what is needed,

without having to add intermediary devices

such as terminal servers or extensive

reprogramming.

An Open Environment

Temaline meets openness at three

levels:

l Shared database functionality allows

customers to use their own company

database to manage cardholder

database information

l Ethernet networks with TCP/IP

communication protocols; there is no

longer a need for additional terminal

servers. Temaline’s communication

structure matches exactly customer IT

philosophies both now and in the future

l LONWORKS® – compatible field

devices guarantee the ability to interact

with other devices including: building

management applications (HVAC,

lighting etc.) and fire alarm systems

The same TemaServer platform manages

different applications such as access

control, time and attendance and intruder

detection. No other system provides this level

of security systems integration capability.

Temaline’s communication protocol allows

real-time event management and direct

panel to panel communication.

Shared Database Application

Database technology is a critical element

in the operations of a security system

today. Temaline is designed with a powerful

database distribution engine (DBDE) which

manages the database updating to the

TemaServers.

Save On Costs

The advent of Enterprise Resource

Management providers, such as SAP®,

Oracle, PeopleSoft and others, are also

increasing customer focus on systems

integration and the openness as they

seek ways to tie their facilities into singular

interacting systems to save on operational

costs.

This shift in influence has been felt most

strongly in the inter-relationships between

access control, time and attendance and

payroll applications.

Honeywell has been actively installing

SAP® approved solutions for over 10 years

and now a new capability is here – a SAP®

certified application meeting the validation

of SAP® for time and attendance and access

control and all are on the same hardware

platform.

l Distributed, uninterruptible and intelligent

power supply is totally independent from

the data wiring, so many power supply

modules can be located on a system to

provide the necessary power specific

field device groups

l Service and maintenance diagnostic

tools perform remote monitoring on all

Temaline devices. Diagnostic features

can be implemented as embedded

functions of the terminals or as external

tools

l Remote maintenance provides for

read/restore/edit functions to all system

configuration parameters

Section 5.: Access Control Solutions

The modular design of the system frees the

controllers and field devices from reliance

on the central supervisory system for all

access control functionality and relieves the

supervisory system of the responsibility of

card transaction processing.

ACCESS MANAGEMENT

AND CONTROL

The basic goal of the Temaline Access

Control system is to ensure the security and

safety of the resources – people, assets,

documents, intellectual property – present in

a specific area, while still allowing authorised

users easy, but controlled access.

The Temaline system philosophy is as

follows:

l People Management – extend the

Access Control solution to also

include intrusion detection and Time &

Attendance

l Robust Solutions – high reliability and

availability

l Connectivity – direct Ethernet

connection to standard local or wide

area networks

TIME AND ATTENDANCE

MANAGEMENT

The Time and Attendance Manager is a fully

integrated software module within the EBI

Temaline Access Management and Control

application. As a result, database entries

need only be done once for each cardholder

and application.

In addition to the integral Time & Attendance

Manager, EBI Temaline has the ability to

interface to SAP®, Oracle and PeopleSoft

systems as well as other third-party

applications.

The same controllers and field devices

used for Access Control also manage

Time & Attendance functionality simplifying

the system architecture, design and

engineering.

INTRUSION

DETECTION

Integrated security requires interaction

between all security functions. EBI Temaline

accomplishes this via the concept of

“integration by design” using the same

core software, hardware platform,

database and the same field bus wiring.

All controllers, regardless of their specific

function communicate on a peer-to-peer

basis. The TemaServer is able to manage

a low-level intrusion detection strictly

integrated with access control. This task is

carried out using a TemaKey dedicated to

the management of digital input / output

signals. Each TemaServer is able to manage

up to 64 digital inputs and 64 digital outputs

and each I/O can be enabled/disabled/

armed/disarmed. The TemaServer device

continuously checks the status of the field

points controlled in order to detect a status

variation.

RECEPTION

MANAGEMENT

The term “reception management” refers to

all activities associated with checking in and

monitoring external persons who enter the

building. Typical activities include

l Checking in visitors on arrival

l Checking out visitors on departure

l Pre-registering visitors

l Keeping an address book of all company

contacts

l Collecting and performing historical

analysis of visitor data

l Assigning and administering the return

of temporary cards

LOSS

PREVENTION

The Asset Loss Prevention solution is

designed to control the rights of a cardholder

to exit/enter from a controlled location while

in the possession of specific, identifiable

assets.

SECTION 5: page

Temaline Specification Data

Section 5.: Access Control Solutions

PRIMARY SYSTEM CONCEPTS

The concept of “Integration by Design” is

the core philosophy of the EBI Temaline

architecture. Dedicated software allows

users to determine the operational

parameters for the chosen subsystems

– including Access Management &

Control, Time & Attendance, Intrusion

Detection, Reception Management and

Loss prevention. These design disciplines

create seamless inter-operability and a more

secure functioning system.

Access Management and Control

The access control platform of the EBI

Temaline subsystem guarantees one of the

highest levels of availability of any system

on the market today with multiple layers of

redundancy, peer-to-peer communication

and the highest marks for application

flexibility designed as standard in the

system.

The system controls and monitors the

peripheral hardware, stores all data received

via the same hardware devices, and makes

the data available for analysis.

The system operator can perform operations

such as:

l Check the number of users present in

each area

l Execute antipassback controls

l Execute “length of stay” checks on the

users

l Check the list of visitors that entered at a

given time

l Check the number of available parking

spaces in the parking lot

Time & Attendance

The Time & Attendance platform of EBI

Temaline allows administrative users the

ability to communicate with the company’s

employees via the field devices and

terminals.

The system manages the information

associated with the various clock-in and

clock-out operations and makes it available

to Time & Attendance applications such

as the EBI Temaline Time & Attendance

Manager or SAP®. The bi-directional

functionality also allows messaging from

administration to employees providing

broadcast or individually tailored messages.

A system user interacting directly with the

terminal display can execute the following

operations:

l Reason entry – specifies a transit reason

l Transit enquiry – interrogates the system

directly regarding past transit operations

l Generic enquiry – displays various

user-specific information requested by a

cardholder

l Spontaneous messages – display

personal information addressed either to

the cardholder or to a group, following a

card read operation

l Electronic bulletin board – displays

information addressed to all cardholders

who use the terminal

Intrusion Detection and Security

The EBI Temaline subsystem’s intrusion

detection platform ensures a high level of

security by allowing operators to monitor all

the events and alarms generated in a facility

in a single user interface.

The system immediately detects when

an intrusion sensor is activated, when a

gate is forced or when a communication

line is interrupted, and alerts the operator

concerned. The operator also receives

detailed information describing the alarm

or event as well as the required response/

action. Subsequent analysis of the events

and corrective actions taken by operators

facilitates the continued improvement of

security and control procedures and also

ensures continuous improvements to

company safety standards.

Remote access via either dial-in or Wide

Area Network (or LAN) connection or EBI’s

Alarm Pager option (providing notification via

SMS, e-mail, pager or SNMP) allows alarms

to be managed from remote workstations or

security centres, which is a great advantage

for installations that are not attended or

guarded 24 hours per day.

Asset Tracking & Loss Prevention

Asset Loss Prevention provides additional

security over a Real Time Location System

(RTLS). This option provides the ability to

not only locate assets within a facility but

also control the movement of assets in and

out of protected areas. Assets are equipped

with active, radio frequency tags that allow

them to be uniquely identified and they can

be linked to people, who are identified by

means of their access cards.

The system uses a combination of long-

range readers, transmitters and Temaline

devices connected together to form a

special Asset Portal (AP). In its simplest

form, the Asset Portal is a double technology

TemaKey, in which one reader is the radio

frequency receiver and the other a Temaline

reader.

for the entrance/exit area of a building when

creating an Asset Portal.

Reception Management

A visitor’s first impression of a company

is often the reception area. Providing an

efficient and professional reception service

is the first step in creating a positive

impression for visitors.

Temaline Reception Manager provides an

optional solution for managing visitors to a

facility and provides complete integration

Asset Loss Prevention System Concept

with the EBI Temaline access control

system. The seamless integration is critical

as it provides levels of security and visitor

control that cannot be provide by stand-

alone solutions.

In addition to capturing visitor data, the

visitor management package also permits

the issuing of visitor access cards and

temporary staff cards while the powerful

reporting capabilities help identify the

location of visitors present in the building at

any given time.

Temporary and Visitor Cards

Temporary and Visitor cards are configured

in the system and then physically stored

in an archive kept by reception staff. The

cards can then be issued and enabled

on demand – either for a new visitor or an

employee whose card has temporarily been

misplaced.

Visitor Pre-registration

Visitor pre-registration helps speed up the

visitor check in process by allowing staff to

enter details for their visitors prior to their

arrival.

The reception has access to an on-line list

of pre-registered visitors and simply have

to complete any outstanding details, issue

a card (or print a pass) if needed and start

the visit.

Visitor Check-in/Check-out

The reception desk manages all visitor

check-in/out operations including:

l Record personal and identification data

l Use the address book to identify a

contact person for the visit

l Record all data concerning the visit

and, if appropriate, assign a card and

associated access rights

l Print a visitor’s pass on paper or card

l Suspend and continue a check-in

operation to allow time to trace the

desired contact person

l Terminate the visit if it is not possible to

trace the desired contact person

l Modify data associated with the current

visit without terminating the visit itself, for

example, extend the card expiry date or

enter notes regarding the visit

WEB Reception Management

The WEB Reception Management

module improves the Reception Manager

functionality by providing an Internet

Explorer-based web browser connection

to the Reception Manager database. The

browser connection provides more stations,

better performance and reduces engineering

by eliminating the need for manual software

installation.

The functionality includes:

l Customised Human Machine Interface

l Check-in and check-out of visitors

l Visitor pre-registration

l Temporary card assignment and return

l Cardholder present in zone report

l User status

This option requires:

l The Reception Management option

l A Microsoft SQL Server Client

Access Licence (CAL) for each

computer using the browser based

solution.

Photo ID

EBI Temaline PhotoID is a fully integrated

function that enables the user to create

identification cards for users of the system.

The functionality includes;

l Image capture (including cardholder

photographs and signatures)

l Image storage in a variety of formats

such as bitmap, JPEG or GIF formats

l Integration of dynamic data from the EBI

Temaline database to the card layout for

printing specific cardholder details on

cards.

l Custom card graphic creation.

l Card printing

The integrated graphic design tool provides

the ability to create flexible and personalised

card layouts. Cards can be printed with

information specific to the cardholder such

as the cardholder’s first and last name,

additional personal data, a photograph and/

or a signature.

Cards can be used for visual identification

only, or as physical access cards that

are part of the electronic access control

system.

Interface to external applications

Access management systems are normally

integrated to third party or external systems

in order to exchange personnel data, either

to update cardholder details or to provide

transaction information to Human Resource

applications such as Payroll programs or

general Time & Attendance management

systems.

Temaline provides a flexible Time &

Attendance management solution allowing

the collection of entry and exit transaction

details using the employee’s standard

access card and, very often, the same

readers used for access control.

EBI Temaline supports the following

operations:

l Creation of data import/export and

conversion specifications

l Interaction with external applications

l Data export, manually or on-line

l Interaction with the HR-PDC Interface for

SAP R/3 for data import and export.

Personal data of the company’s employees

is imported from the Time & Attendance

application software. This application can

be a stand-alone application or part of a

complete Enterprise Resource Planning

solution such as SAP® or PeopleSoft.

Enterprise Resource Management

Temaline provides the ability to interface to

common Enterprise Resource Planning

solutions such as SAP®, Oracle or

EBI Temaline uses an SAP® Certified

Integration module for integration to the

mySAP Human Resource application

module via the HR-PDC channel. The

bi-directional HR-PDC interface allows

personnel data transfer from the SAP®

master database to EBI Temaline and the

transfer of transaction data – complete with

specific reasons and time codes for Time &

Attendance – to SAP®.

SYSTEM

ARCHITECTURE

The EBI Temaline solution can be grouped

into three distinct levels:

Supervisory Level

The Supervisory Level comprises the

Enterprise Buildings Integrator and Temaline

software and has the following primary

functions:

l System configuration

l Data collection

l Event analysis

l Reporting

l Interface to external applications

Peripheral level

The peripheral level is where most decisions

are made and it is made up of the controllers

(TemaServers) responsible for the Access

Control, Time & Attendance and Intrusion

Detection applications.

TemaServers are usually connected to the

Local Area Network via a dedicated Ethernet

port and use peer-to-peer communication

to exchange data and commands with one

another. The TemaServers can therefore

take all decisions locally, once configured,

removing dependence on the Supervisor

Level and improving system autonomy.

The TemaServer is battery backed and the

Temaline power supply modules can power

any associated devices. These modules

provide up to 4 hours of operation after

failure of the mains power supply. In the

battery backup status, the system reduces

the power consumption (e.g. backlight) but

does not suspend functionality for gate

control, communications, or other critical

management actions.

TemaServers are used to manage single

devices such as individual card readers,

displays or keypads as well as integrated

units that are built out of several single

devices (e.g. reader and display, display and

keyboard, reader and display and keyboard).

The TemaServer is able to logically assemble

simple devices to form a virtual terminal

responsible for managing a door.

Each TemaServer supports the management

of up to 12 doors, using either a single reader

for entry or a reader for entry AND a second

reader for exit. TemaServers support up

to 24 readers per controller, depending on

system configuration.

SECTION 5: page

Temaline Specification Data

Section 5.: Access Control Solutions

Field level

This is the level where the system interacts

with the external world (company employees,

visitors, gates, etc.). It comprises readers,

displays, keypads, locking devices, digital

sensors, and other devices.

LON

Temaline uses the Echelon communication

bus as the field bus for TemaKeys, Tema

Power and I/O devices. Each LONWORKS®

bus can support up to 64 nodes or devices

(readers, I/O modules, etc.). As with any

LONWORKS® communication bus, in a

“daisy-chain” configuration, the total length

of the LON bus cannot exceed 2700 metres.

In a “free-topology configuration, the length of

the total LON bus cannot exceed 500 metres.

PEER-TO-PEER COMMUNICATION

In order to maintain high availability and

flexibility of the system, the TemaServers

communicate with one another on a peer-

to-peer basis.

Each TemaServer is continually updated

with system status regarding employee

presence, number of people present in each

zone, and details for anti-passback control

amongst others.

In order to avoid unnecessary information

exchange, TemaServers can be

logically grouped and the peer-to-peer

communication limited to the group. This

creates consistent high-performance

response. Communication over Ethernet is

managed via the TCP/IP protocol stack.

SHARED LOAD

The purpose of the Shared Load

architecture configuration is to enhance

system availability. The system has the

capability for it to protect itself in the event of

a TemaServer failure, as shown below.

This added level of hardware redundancy

is achieved using redundant pairs of

TemaServers. During normal system

operation, each TemaServer manages its

devices but, should one of the TemaServers

fail, the remaining TemaServer takes over

the management of the orphaned devices

without any degradation or loss of system

functionality.

MULTI-SITE

The multi-site functionality is a logical

concept that can be used with only one

server or over a Distributed System

Architecture (i.e. multi-servers) to manage

the TemaServers and peripheral devices

installed over a Wide-area Network (Wan).

Multi-site allows the management of up to

255 different sites per system. Each site

has its specific terminals, behaviour models,

calendar and zones. The employees,

visitors, vehicles, available cards can be

enabled to have multi-site capabilities. Using

this function information can be distributed

in the most suitable manner relating to

employees, visitors, vehicles and available

cards to the appropriate sites.

The multi-site functionality is often used in a

campus or business park type facility.

HARDWARE COMPONENTS

TemaSeRveR

The TemaServer is the heart

of the Temaline architecture.

Each TemaServer has its

own database and is able to communicate

with other TemaServers via peer-to-

peer communications. It represents the

distributed intelligence of the system

providing an operating environment that

seamlessly supports inter-operability of

Access Control, Time & Attendance and

Intruder Detection.

TemaServers connect to the EBI Temaline

Supervisory System via Ethernet. The

connection between the TemaServer and

the field devices is via Echelon bus protocol.

TemaPOWeR

The TemaPower is an active power supply device that does not only supply power, but is

also able to exchange messages with the TemaServer controllers thus providing continuous

information on the status of the main power supply and of the batteries.

In emergency situations, the devices can be configured in a redundant mode. Each device

then has the ability to manage additional TemaKeys normally managed by another Tema

Power, which is temporarily in failure.

muSTeR STaTiOnS

The Muster Station provides

the ability to electronically

manage a muster point in the event of an

emergency. Any TemaServer or TemaKey

equipped with a graphic display can be

configured as a Muster Station. Cardholders

are linked to a Muster station via the

behaviour models as for the other types of

readers in the system.

Each Muster Station supervises specific

zones of the plant displays a list of

cardholders still present in these zones

(including detail on their last recorded zone).

Proper site mustering is a critical requirement

for any facility that requires a structured,

secure and on-line evacuation plan.

TemaKeyS

The TemaKey devices are the

interface to all cardholders

(e.g. company employees, visitors and sub-

contractors). The modularity of the devices

allows each customer to select the right

TemaKey to suit their requirements.

In its smallest form, a TemaKey is a single

reader but larger TemaKeys can also include

additional readers, displays, keypads and/or

I/O modules.

Standard reader technologies supported

include:

l Magnetic stripe

l Proximity – HID, Motorola, NexWatch,

Sokymat, and others

l LCD devices – 16 characters x 2 rows

and graphic display with 16 lines x 40

columns

l Wiegand interface devices

l Digital I/O devices

l Specialist smart card technologies

including: Mifare, Legic, ST Micro and

others

SYSTEM FEATURES AND

FUNCTIONS

General System Configuration

System configuration engineering can be

accomplished completely from the EBI

supervisory level – on-line – using an EBI

station, without affecting the operation of

the system.

Updating is automatically initiated and is

carried out involving only the modified

details to the TemaServer. Only the essential

updated information is sent thus avoiding

unnecessary operations and network

traffic and also minimising the download

time for database changes. TemaServers

are also able to receive update versions of

the firmware and other basic tables using

standard tools like Telnet and TFTP.

Using the same tools is also possible to

download all localisation data (strings,

date formats, currency) or to download the

firmware to the TemaKeys – in this case the

download is done via the TemaServer. The

TemaServer acts only as a gateway between

the supervisory level network (TCP/IP) and

the field level network (LonWorks).

Data Collection

The supervisory level collects data as clock-

in and clock-out transactions, events such

as I/O and other “objects” status changes

coming from the peripheral level and device

failure messages. All this information is

characterised by a priority that determines

when they are sent: events are sent first

followed by transactions, based upon

priority.

“Reasoned” Transactions

Reasoned transactions allow cardholders to

associate a specific reason with a cad

transaction. This is normally used in Time

& Attendance to associated extraordinary

transactions with reasons such as leaving

for a doctor’s appointment.

In the case of Time and Attendance, the

normal behaviour of the TemaKey when a

‘reason’ is entered is:

. The reason is chosen by the cardholder,

using a function key or selecting a

choice in a menu of reasons associated

to a function key

. The card is presented to complete the

transaction.

Information Point

The information point functionality is available

only on a TemaKey with a reader and a

graphic display. There are different ways to

present information to the cardholder:

l Bulletin Board – the bulletin board is a

message displayed by the LCD when it

is in an idle condition (there is no other

activity in progress). Configuration is

done at the supervisory station.

A text message can also be set that

could be a “Welcome” message,

Company name or any other message

as defined. These messages are

supported by user-friendly configuration

software in order to allow easy tailoring

of the functionality.

l Inquiry – The cardholder request

information in the following way:

. The type of information is chosen by

the cardholder using a function key

or selecting a choice in a menu of

information associated to a function key

. Presenting a card. The inquiries are

requests of information that can stay

on the TemaServer or EBI. Inquiries are

always personal information.

Transactions Inquiry

The Transactions Inquiry functionality gives

cardholders the opportunity to view and

check their transactions.

The transactions are shown complete with

the relevant information such as the date

and time, the direction and the reason

associated to the transaction.

This functionality is managed by the EBI

Temaline Interface and the Temaline

peripherals and does not require any

maintenance activity, human intervention or

interface to other applications.

SECTION 5: page

Temaline Specification Data

Section 5.: Access Control Solutions

General Inquiries

Configurable information available to the

cardholder that is contained within the

application such as time and vacation

balances.

Event Analysis

The event analysis functionality allows

the operators to display and analyse the

historical data stored in the system. The

operator can define:

l What data to display

l Which filters to apply to the data in order

to show only events that satisfy certain

defined criteria

l What information applies according to

the content of the fields

Spontaneous Messages

Spontaneous messages are alphanumeric

and displayed automatically on the terminal

following a clock-in or clock-out operation.

The operator can also define spontaneous

messages;

l Associated to a specific employee

– addressed exclusively to the person in

question

l Associated to a specific display i.e.

to the TemaKeys that use the primary

object in question. All authorised users

who transit at the TemaKey can then

view these messages

Spontaneous messages can be configured

for all displays, with the following limitations:

l Alphanumeric display: a single line of 16

characters

l Graphic display: 4 lines of 32 characters

The Spontaneous Message functionality

gives the opportunity to show a message

to the cardholder using the terminal,

simultaneously with the transaction

information. The message can be specific

for the terminal, for the cardholder, or for

a group of cardholders. Examples include

time limits for an individual to complete a

specific personnel task such as special

training or a group of individuals who might

be required for medical exams or a meeting

room is changed.

Dial Up Communications

The Temaline system architecture supports

point-to-point communication between the

TemaServer and the supervision centre

via Dial-up. This communication can be

used as an alternative to the LAN Ethernet

connection (as primary connection), or can

be used as a back-up connection (primary

connection in LAN Ethernet, secondary – or

back-up connection – in point-to-point).

The point-to-point connection can be

established in dial-up (modems) or using a

direct line connection (null modem, RS232

connection). The point-to-point connection

can be established both from the Tema

Server and from the Supervision Centre in

the following ways:

l Manual call from Supervisor centre

l Scheduled connection (both from centre

and peripheral level)

l Automatic (started by a Supervisor

centre commands or by a Peripheral

event/alarm)

The supervisor centre has the capability

to manage a group of modems; the

TemaServer can automatically select the

first non-busy line on up to 4 supervisor

centre telephone numbers.

Transits are not sent in an on-line manner, but

only on specific scheduled time periods. If

there is no connection between TemaServer

and supervision centre, the transits are

stored into the ‘transit buffer’ and sent to

EBI centre once the connection is establish.

If the ‘transit buffer’ level exceeds the 80%,

the TemaServer establishes automatically a

connection to decrease the occupancy of

the buffer.

From the point of view of events it is possible

to specify time periods (hours for day and

days of the week) in which the events are

sent using the point-to-point connection.

TRANSIT CONTROLS

Gate control

In its simplest form, Gate Control is the same

as a standard functionality of electronic door

access control. The main job of the Access

Control TemaServers is to control one or

more gates (doors, revolving doors, turnstiles,

etc.) in a single or bi-directional way.

The TemaServer monitors the gate status

and controls the door strike – both are

managed by an I/O device.

The TemaServer controls the gate both

when there is a request for transit and when

the door is closed (idle condition). In this

case the TemaServer treats the two readers

as a single door, conserving door count per

TemaServer.

l When there is a request for transit

and the cardholder is authorised, the

TemaServer opens the gate, checking

for the right transit sequence. A transit

sequence is a collection of steps related

to the gate characteristics (turnstile,

revolving doors, etc).

Gate Control

SECTION 5: page 5

Temaline Specification Data

Section 5.: Access Control Solutions

The following are basic commands related

to the gate management;

l Open the gate for a single transit

checking for the right transit sequence

(for entrance)

l Open the gate for a single transit

checking for the right transit sequence

(for exit)

l Open the gate – the gate remains open

until a “normal condition” or a Close the

gate command is issued

l Close the gate (lock) – the gate remains

closed until a “normal condition” or an

“open the gate” command is issued,

l Normal condition – return to normal

modality

l When a “return to normal” command

is issued, if alarms are still present, the

alarm message is resent

Anti-passback

Anti-passback is used to prevent a card

being passed back to a following individual

to gain entry.

Cross-controller anti-passback is achieved

in the system through using the peer-to-

peer communication capabilities of the

TemaServers. In addition, the standard and

globally anti-passback have special “time

out” functionality that restricts re-entry by

cardholder within specified times. In other

words, even when a valid cardholder makes

a valid exit, the “anti-passback time out”

disallows re-entry before a specified time

(e.g. 10 minutes).

It is possible within the Tema system to have,

not only, global anti-passback, but also anti-

passback for a given number of zones.

To enable the anti-passback control, a

TemaKey must be configured with two

zones associated: the starting zone that is

the zone that the cardholder is leaving and

the destination zone that is the zone where

the cardholder will enter. The anti-passback

controls establish the zone in which the

card is currently located, and checks that

each subsequent card scan operation is

consistent with this information.

Escort Control

The escort transit control ensures that a

transit is granted only when two transactions

in sequence are performed with two different

cards.

This functionality can also be used to

manage vehicles associated with individual

people, or their access to specific area

based on the required “double permission”

as well as for visitor escort.

The feature is based on:

l Enabling a TemaKey to manage dual

transits

l Enabling an employee card, a vehicle

card, or a visit card to enable a coupled

transit

“One Shot” transits

In facilities visited often by supply vehicles,

there is often a requirement to enable the

vehicle for a single transit or for a single

entry and a single exit.

Number of people present in an

area (minimum and maximum)

This functionality is an important safety

feature for the Tema system. The number

of individuals present in an area can be

managed and controlled. This functionality

allows that in a defined area there cannot

be present less then a specified minimum

number of people or more then a maximum

number selected.

The Anti-passback control can also

be activated if needed in applying this

functionality. It is also possible to define

whether the gate has to be opened even if

the check fails. In this case only a warning

event is sent to the supervisory level.

Path control

Path control allows the system to grant

or deny transit at a terminal on the basis

of rules that verify the historical use of the

card requesting the transit, whether in terms

of the TemaKey utilised for the preceding

transits or in terms of the time elapsed since

those transits.

In particular, with Path Control, the operator

may set the rules that must be respected for

access through the terminal. The following

describes the three possible scenarios that

can be utilised for this type of control:

l Correlated transit among TemaKeys

l Mandatory Path

l Timing Barrier

Correlated transit among TemaKeys

In order for a transit to be granted at the

terminal, it is necessary for the user first to

have transited through one of a particular

group of terminals. In this example, path

control is enabled in such a manner that a

user will not be able to access the canteen

before having transited the required prior

TemaKeys.

SECTION 5: page

Temaline Specification Data

Section 5.: Access Control Solutions

Therefore, in the example below:

l The TemaKey # 4 is associated to the

group of TemaKeys that manage an

area, for example the Canteen (Group 4)

l TemaKeys # 1 and 2 are associated to

the Group 1

l The control rule that is to be associated

to the terminal # 4 must verify the

preceding transit through the terminals

associated to the Group 1

Timing Barrier

In this instance, the terminal verifies both

the terminal group through which the user

has transited as well as the time elapsed

between transits before making the decision

to allow access.

For example, a timing barrier can be

established between a TemaKey associated

with Group 8 and a TemaKey associated with

another Group – say 7. The rule associated

with Group 8 will verify whether the user has

transited at any of the terminals associated

with Group 7 within a configurable time (less

then 24 hours or 1440 minutes).

Note: This type of control is a multi-gate

control. It relies on information from several

gate control terminals and, if communication

with one of the terminals involved is

interrupted, the control can no longer

be guaranteed. In this case, the system

automatically degrades the functionality

and disables the control until the conditions

necessary for reliable execution are

restored.

TIME AND ATTENDANCE

TRANSITS

The EBI Temaline Interface provides the

ability to define a specific use for each

TemaKey based on the specific transaction

for which the terminal/reader will be used.

These include:

l Access Control

l Time & Attendance

l Canteen

l SAP®

The Time and Attendance (T&A)

transaction is generally used to support

T&A requirements of HR departments and

payroll. EBI Temaline provides the required

transactions via ASCII file, Excel file or via a

database table.

EBI Temaline allows the user to manage

T&A transactions, not only covering the

company’s employees, but also for external

personnel such as consultants, contractors

or employees of sister companies.

Canteen Transits

EBI Temaline provides the ability to check

the number of canteen transits allowed

and executed for each cardholder per day.

TemaKeys are configured specifically for this

purpose and the information is collected by

EBI Temaline and then normally exported

to an external application for canteen

management.

Reasoned Transactions

A reasoned transaction is a transaction that

includes an associated code identifying

a specific reason in addition to the normal

information such as the card number, the

date and time of the transit, the transit

direction and the terminal identification.

Reasoned transactions are extensively

used for T&A transactions in order to allow

cardholders to identify an exceptional or

unusual transit. A reasoned transaction can

also be used to send feedback to activate/

deactivate the lights of an office or enable/

disable the intrusion detection of an area.

Length of Stay Controls

EBI Temaline has the ability to verify the

amount of time that a user remains in a

security-sensitive zone. This can be done

based on two thresholds:

l High pre-alarm threshold: indicates

that the user has remained in the zone

beyond the pre-alarm limit

l High alarm threshold: indicates that

the user has remained in the zone

beyond the time limit set for the alarm.

1

2

3

4

Mandatory Path

In the following example, a transit at

TemaKey # 8 associated with Group 8 will

only be authorised following a transit at

TemaKey # 4, associated with Group 4,

and a transit at the latter, in turn, will be

granted only after a transit at TemaKey # 1

associated with Group 1.1

Behaviour models

This function allows the user to assign

schedules to cardholders (employees,

external personnel, visitors, companies

and vehicles) that reflect their access

requirements. Behaviour Models determine

user access rights to protected areas

of a facility, and consist of a time-based

component (time periods and day types) and

related TemaKeys (or readers) for accessing

doors or gates. Users can configure up to

512 behaviour models.

Each behaviour model can consist of up to

9 blocks (or groups) of terminals and time

periods linked to specific day types, such

as the days of the week (from Monday to

Sunday), holidays, and special days.

LOCALISATION

EBI Temaline provides a simple, user-friendly

procedure for localisation and requires no

specific tool. A database table is provided

containing all necessary character strings

in English and localisation simply requires

that the translated text be entered into the

“Customised” column as shown below.

Smart card technology is ideally suited for access control, logical (PC) access, storage

of biometric templates, secure IDs with embedded tamper-proof digital photos, parking,

ePurse and many other applications requiring secure and reliable read/write cards.

Honeywell’s OmniAssure™ readers combine compliance with convenience. The patent-pending

‘flash-on-card’ design makes OmniAssure readers the easiest to use. With flash-on-card, the

reader’s firmware can be easily updated to support changing government standards without

removing the readers from the wall. With other smart card readers, the configuration cards only

change parameter settings for the currently installed firmware.

OmniAssure readers can retrofit most standard Honeywell or Wiegand-output proximity systems.

The readers also feature built-in-hardware to support future RS485 protocols and both the reading/

writing of smart card credentials. This protects the OmniAssure solution for changing needs in the

future.

Reader versions include smart card reader only, smart card reader plus keypad, fingerprint smart

card reader, and a multi-technology smart card/prox reader. All wall-mount readers are sold as

mullion mounts with optional mounting kits available.

Compatible cards include:l HSPD-12/FIPS 201 PIV II cards (endpoint

Contactless Mifare™ Fingerprint Readers

Precise BioAccess™ Mifare is a plug and play fingerprint reader that offers unparalleled

security for access control. Precise BioMatch™ technology provides reliable one-to-

one matching— personal proof that people are who they claim to be.

Precise BioAccess™ is convenient, fast, accurate, easy to implement and extremely cost effective.

By only storing the template on a contactless smart card instead of in a less secure database,

privacy is preserved. Precise BioAccess™ Mifare is designed to instantly replace existing readers

and requires no new wiring or software updates.

Precise BioAccess™ Enrolment Station is a standalone package for enrolling fingerprints and

writing biometric templates onto Mifare contactless cards for use with Precise BioAccess™ Mifare

readers. The Precise BioAccess™ Enrolment Station gives control over the contents of the cards

so the Precise Biometric data can coexist with other applications and data on the Mifare card.

HandKey™

Section 5..5: Access Control – Hand Geometry Readers

The HandKey reader by Recognition Systems, Inc. utilises field proven hand geometry

technology that maps and verifies the size and shape of a person’s hand in less than one

second.

The HandKey captures a three dimensional image of the hand using a 32,000 pixel image array. 90

measurements, including the lengths, widths, thickness and surface area of the fingers and hand

are taken. An advanced algorithm determines the unique aspects of the hand and then generates a

nine-byte hand template. This template is then stored and used for subsequent comparisons. Dirt,

cuts and abrasions on the hand have no impact on accuracy.

The HandKey CR is specifically designed to work in conjunction with card based access control

systems. This makes adding biometric security to critical access points fast, simple and seamless

for both new and existing systems. The HandKey CR without integrated card reader and the

HandKey CR with HID proximity can store up to 512 cardholder templates in the unit. The HandKey

CR with an integrated OmniClass/iCLASS reader stores cardholder templates on their cards,

protecting cardholder privacy and eliminating the need to store and update cardholder databases

in individual HandKey CR readers. The storage of the template on the card allows the reader to

support an unlimited number of cardholders.

The HandKey II provides the security and convenience at an affordable price, even when compared

to cardbased systems. Because a hand is the card, HandKey II allows access only to authorised

people without the hassles of a card or key. By eliminating cards, administrative costs are reduced

while greatly increasing the level of security. Users appreciate the convenience of never worrying

about keeping track of a card or key.

Featuresl When multiple HandKey units

are linked together via RS-485

or Ethernet, the unit’s built-in

template management system

can be used to distribute

hand imprints to other hand

readers in the network. This

allows users to enrol at one

reader and then use other

readers in the system without

re-enrolment

l Integrated wall-mount design

l Flexible storage of template

on OmniClass/iCLASS cards

eliminates need to maintain

databases in individual

readers

l Card readers support 26-bit

Wiegand with other data

formats available

l Integrates into existing

systems

l To ensure system integrity,

a tamper switch is built into

the reader. Tamper alarms

and other conditions such as

verification refused, lock out

and duress can be monitored

by the panel directly or

through one of the HandKey’s

two auxiliary outputs
