Platt Amendment• In 1901, the U.S. replaced the Teller

Amendment with the Platt Amendment

• It said the U.S. could interfere in Cuban affairs whenever it saw fit.

• Naval base at Guantanamo Bay established.

• In 1934 the US renounced the right to interfere in Cuba.
