Telford

Telford takes its name from Thomas Telford, the renowned civil engineer. Today, major businesses invest here, attracted by the spirit of creativity and the great location. Delegates attending events at the The International Centre, Telford will find all the modern conveniences of a prosperous town – including cafes, bars, a large shopping centre and the 450 acre town park adjacent to the conference centre.

Ironbridge

The spirit of the new town echoes the spirit of the old – Ironbridge, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The World Heritage Site of Ironbridge boasts no less than 10 museums telling the unforgettable story of how Ironbridge fuelled the development of industry across the globe. Ironbridge is brimming with wine bars, traditional inns, fine dining restaurants and a selection of small independent shops.

Shrewsbury

Looped by the River Severn, Shrewsbury is famed as the birthplace of Charles Darwin, who’s bi-centenary celebrations take place in 2009. Largely unchanged by the modern world, it retains a sense of history and tradition displayed in its myriad of black and white timbered Tudor buildings. But look beyond the buildings to discover a cosmopolitan culture – offering fine restaurants, a huge range of specialist and independent shops, colourful festivals and art galleries.

Welsh Borders

Shropshire is undoubtedly a traditional English county in the first sense, but it lies on the borderlands of Wales. It is here, at the northern edge of the county that the land becomes enveloped in myth and legend – the birthplace of Queen Guinevere, the treasures of Clive of India, the romantic waterfall of Pistyll Rhaeadr and the beautiful landscape of Lake Vyrnwy. A truly inspirational landscape for delegates.

Oswestry

Oswestry was once a strategically vital frontier town and is dominated today by an ancient hill-fort. Surrounded by the mountains of Wales and with the Llangollen Canal flowing through, this stunning landscape offers delegates venues that promise a different pace of life and space to concentrate on their meeting.

Ludlow

Ludlow – the gastronomic capital of Shropshire is a town that has put itself firmly on the international map. Renowned for its food and award-winning restaurants, home grown produce and the famous annual food festival. Visitors to Ludlow cannot fail to be captivated by its obvious charm.

Bridgnorth

Bridgnorth is set on 2 levels – the High Town and the Low Town with its funicular railway linking the two. A trip on the Severn Valley Steam Railway will delight delegates as it passes through the impressive Shropshire countryside.

Much Wenlock

Much Wenlock is the birthplace of the modern Olympics. In 1850 local G.P. Dr William Penny Brookes, who introduced physical education into British schools created the Wenlock Olympian Games and inspired the rebirth of the modern Olympic Games for the “promotion of moral, physical and intellectual improvement.”

Hawkstone Park

The client: Lambert, Leonard & MayThe venue: Hawkstone Park HotelThe event: Your Great Escape outdoor team building day

Lambert, Leonard & May brought 20 delegates to Shropshire to enjoy outdoor challenges and activities in the stunning setting of Hawkstone Park – a 400-acre estate with historic follies and magical natural caves. The ultimate adventure activities included duck herding, hovercraft driving and falconry, as well as other challenges around the caves and ravines of the Follies.

“Thank you so much for such an enjoyable and different team away day experience. The organisation was great and Your Great Escape were very patient and accommodating with changes we had to make to the booking before it was finalised.”

Weston Park

The client: Connect Advertising & PRThe venue: Exclusive use of Weston Park The event: 1920s themed event and dinner

Sixty clients and their partners enjoyed exclusive use of one of England’s finest stately homes for a 1920s themed murder mystery evening. Flapper dancers and murder mystery players provided the entertainment at a champagne reception in the Orangery. The guests were then treated to a luxurious four-course dinner in the superb dining room, followed by an overnight stay.

“Weston Park provided the perfect setting for our corporate evening. Hosting an entertaining corporate event that encompasses fine dining, lavish accommodation, and which can keep everyone enthralled can be a difficult task – but Weston Park made the whole process effortless. First class service, and the impressive location simply adds to the experience.”

The client: FBC Manby Bowdler LLP The venue: National Cold War Auditorium, RAF Museum, CosfordThe event: Launch party

With a jazz band nestled under the wing of a Hasting, and a pianist performing under the nose of a Valiant, guests enjoyed one of the first corporate events in the newest building at the world famous museum. Magicians in military uniforms entertained throughout the evening, and guests enjoyed drinks and canapés in the shadow of some of the most famous aircraft in history.

The International Centre, Telford

The client: MediamakerThe venue: The International Centre, Telford The venue: Conference and Awards Dinner for 4000

Mediamaker were tasked with the mammoth job of producing a working conference for up to 4,000 delegates, over two days, including two gala awards dinners for two different audiences – no mean feat! They worked with the catering and logistics teams at The International Centre, to create perfection.

“The TIC team did a superb job, and the result was terrific. We couldn’t believe that 2000 people had been served a three-course dinner in an hour-and-a-half, and comfortably our schedule was on time and the evening was a stunning success. We can’t wait for the next one – thank you!”

Creating Perfection

Investing for success

There has been an explosion of investment creating new and exciting venues including the £10million Q Hotels Telford Golf and Spa Hotel, the world class £12.5million National Cold War Museum, the iconic £28million new Theatre Severn opening April 09 and the £10million expansion of Blists Hill Victorian Town. Also a new Direct Train Service from London to Shropshire and development of the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge to create a world class visitor experience.

More is planned for 2009 and beyond. Already positioned as one of the UK’s top 10 Convention Centres, The International Centre is planning a major expansion of their conference space and hotel capacity with the development of a Convention Quarter. Telford town is being transformed through a multi million pound master plan including new restaurants, bars, cultural and activity experiences.

Telford has a blueprint for one of the largest, and most impressive covered shopping centres in the land – work on the £350million project is already well under way.

Pioneering by tradition Telford and Shropshire are not resting on their laurels. The destination is now investing more money than ever to create new venues, visitor facilities, cultural attractions and transport connections to meet the needs of tomorrow’s delegates.
