Agenda

•SNA is gone, tokens are gone (with 3 exceptions), so what do I do now?

•What do I need to telework (equipment, accounts, etc.)?

•How do I connect?− I don’t have a blue cable to connect to at home, what do I

do?− Is there a certain order in which I have to start up Jabber,

Outlook, etc.?

•How do I get to my stuff?− What’s the difference if I’m at home on VPN or sitting at my

desk?

•Questions?

Without a token and SNA, what do I do now?

•With the improved IT Security posture at NASA HQ and the new policies regarding how to access NASA HQ IT resources remotely, there are other ways to telework effectively:

−NASA Smartcard (PIV badge)

−Virtual Private Network (VPN)

What do I need to telework?

• Required Equipment:− A government-issued or government-approved laptop

You may no longer user personal computers for performing NASA work

− A badge reader This is usually internal to your laptop, but it may be an external card reader like one of

these:

• Recommended Equipment:− A headset with mic

This is not required if your laptop has internal speakers and mic You can also use the same earbuds/mic that you use for your mobile device

•Other nice to have items:−A copy of the Remote Access Guide, either hard

copy, or downloaded to your laptop BEFORE going home to telework

−http://itcd.hq.nasa.gov/secure/remote_access.pdf −Local copies of any files you plan to work with

“just in case”

How do I connect?

1. Plug your laptop in to your wired home internet connection at home if you use one, or have your home internet wireless credentials handy

2. Boot your laptop and log on to the machine

3. Once fully booted, connect to your home internet

4. Launch the Cisco VPN software

5. Windows - Use the Nasa-smartcard profile to connect to the HQ VPN

How do I connect?

The recommended order in which to start your telework tools is*:

1. If Skype for Business starts automatically when you boot your computer, sign out of Skype and exit the application before doing anything else!

2. Launch and log in to VPN

3. Once connected to the HQ VPN, launch Jabber and log in

4. Now you can launch Outlook

5. Finally, launch Skype for Business

6. Start working!

*NOTE: Your mileage may vary. Not all users will need to start their telework tools in this order.

How do I get to my stuff?

• Is there any difference in how I get to my stuff if I’m at home logged in to VPN or sitting at my desk at NASA HQ?

− Maybe…− If you use Jabber, then your

computer is your phone, gives you access to your voice mail, and to forward/un-forward your desk phone

− Some Windows users experience no difference whatsoever, others find that their shortcut to their user folder temporarily “disappears”

− Mac users can either use their desktop shortcuts to their folders, or can mount a network drive to access them

How do I get to my stuff?

If your user folder “disappears”, here’s how to get back to it:

1. Start > Computer

2. Click in the location bar at the top of the window, and type the path to your user folder

3. If you don’t know the path to your user folder, you can browse to find it:

a) In the location bar, type \\hqdata and then press Enter

b) Your user folder will be in one of the user folders:

users, or users2 through users9

c) User folders are listed alphabetically by Agency UserID (AUID)

How do I get to my stuff?

•Once you are connected to the HQ VPN:−Accessing Web sites and applications is no

different than the way you get to them when you’re at your desk at NASA HQ

−Your bookmarks will work the same way−Links embedded in IT Notices, e-mail messages,

or documents will work the same way
