First discovered in 1970 at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden near Wisley, and subsequently collected from the Younger Botanic Garden near Dunoon. Calypogeia muelleriana is an associate at both sites; Cephalozia bicuspidata and Pellia epiphylla grow alongside at the RHS Garden; and Lepidozia reptans, Lophocolea bidentata, L. semiteres and Scapania nemorea are nearby at the Younger Botanic Garden (Paton, 1999). Altitudinal range: 25–40 m. Younger Botanic Garden, Main Argyll, 2008. David Long Described by Paton (1992) as Telaranea longii, but subsequently synonymised with the New Zealand species T. tetradactyla (Engel & Merrill, 2004). Dioicous; female plants are frequent, male plants and sporophytes are unknown. Oceanic Temperate. Believed to have been introduced to Britain with garden plants from New Zealand. Its range elsewhere in the Southern Hemisphere is uncertain. S.D.S. Bosanquet A
