October, enjoy grape-picking
in the Ajimu Basin which is
famous for grape cultivation.
Take a tour of the winery where local Ajimu grapes are used to make wine. Wine-tasting is available at the shop on the premises.
There are many facilities here such as campsites, park golf course, tennis courts, swim-ming pool, vineyard, and hot spring spa, among others.
The conical mountain that the local people of Nishishiya call Akibasama, the god of fire prevention, is in the background of the terraced rice fields and village. This landscape has become a hot topic, because it looks like the landscape of Machu Picchu, a World Heritage site in Peru.

The wooden buildings, including the main hall of largest class in Kyushu that has existed since the Edo Period, provide a solemn atmosphere that has some traces of the past.Temple gate of the temple (called Higashi Betsuin in Japanese) has been specified as a prefectural tangible cultural property.
Various strangely-shaped rocks can be found here, such as Sadakyo-ishi Megalith and Sen-no-Iwa – designated a National Scenic Beauty. Explore the fresh green of spring and the autumn foliage at Mt. Senganzan and Senninkyo Valley.
Hot springs gushing from the earth can be found in various parts of Usa city. Soak in the numerous hot spring baths and enjoy the unique charac-teristic of each one.
Take in the view of powerful waterfalls such as "Higashishiiya Waterfall", one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan, and "Fukino Waterfall", known as the waterfall to be admired from behind.
A stream of clear water flows through the monolithic riverbed. The summer season brings many visitors to the campsite, bungalows, fishing pond, etc., while view-ing autumn leaves is popular in the fall.
Usa Shrine is the head shrine of approxi-mately 40,000 Hachiman Shrines in Japan. Within the shrine compounds, there are numerous attractions awaiting visitors such as the Main Shrine – a National Treasure, a historical roofed bridge, and a Japanese garden.
Approximately 800 i tems of historical material are exhibited here. The Usa Fudoki-no-Oka hill is dotted with many ancient tombs inc lud ing Aka tsuka Anc ient Tomb – the o ldest ancient tomb in Kyushu, as well as five other ancient tombs.
At the end of the Edo period, the chief priest of the temple commiss ioned masons to make 521 stone images of Buddha in order to save the residents of the area from their difficult lives.
The shelter hangar trench is a hangar built to protect military planes from air raids during the war. 10 such trenches can be found in this park.
Opened in June, 2013, as a place for learning about the preciousness of life and the value of peace. Visitors can see rare and valuable film footages of the Second World War, and a life-size model of Mitsubishi A6M Zero, which was used in the motion picture “The Eternal Zero”.

Towards the end of the Edo period, in the cave where the images of Yama (the King of Hell) and Kannon (the Goddess of Mercy) are depicted, the world of the afterlife was painted in order to convey the teachings of Buddha to the people.
The b ig wooden image o f Buddha reputed to be carved by Gyoki Priest in just one night has been designated a National Important Cultural Asset.
Fresh local vegetables can be purchased here, as wel l as Yuzu citron sweets and handi-craft products. You can also savor unique dishes made from edible wild plants.
Va luab le i n fo rma t i on and objects related to Futabayama, the famous sumo wrestler of the Showa period, is on display here. There is also a corner where local specialties are sold.
Fresh local farm products are lined on the shelves of this shop. You can also taste the Ajimu specialty – soft-shelled turtle dishes.
No less than 75 stone bridges built from the end of the Edo period to the Showa period still remain in Innai. A tour of the stone bridges is highly recom-mended.
"Kote-e" refers to wall murals of plaster painted on the walls of warehouses or private houses in the later hal f of the Edo per iod. More than 80 wal l murals can be found in Ajimu town.
