Bio-Remediation of TPH contaminated soil (In-Situ & Ex-Situ)

Analytical results showed that TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrycarbons) concentration decreased rapidly.

The micro-organisms, non-pathogenic bacteria and enzymes in Organic SoilTreat are indigenous

cellulose. The natural nutrients are embedded in the product and become bio-available with the

introduction of the hydrocarbons, water and the growth of the bacteria colonies themselves.

Organic SoilTreat contains over 1 billion CFU’s Colony Forming Units per gram.

services to numerous companies nationwide. You benefit from the experience of a highly qualified and

motivated team who has gained more than 10 years of experience in asbestos control.

A Serious Problem

Asbestos may be present in any building that was built or refurbished before the year 2000. During

construction or maintenance, employees and contractors may unknowingly work on asbestos-

containing materials if it has not been identified as required by the Asbestos Regulations. Failing to

implement precautionary control measures when working with asbestos may contaminate entire

buildings and expose other employees and even members of the public to the risk.

ASBESTOS

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring product that was mined for, up until 2000 in South Africa. It was used

in many different products because it is fire and chemical resistance. There are primarily three types of

asbestos, Chrysolite (White asbestos), Crocidolite (Blue asbestos) and Amosite (Brown asbestos).

Exposure to asbestos dust is dangerous and can cause a variety of potentially fatal diseases.

Asbestos Health Risks

Inhalation of asbestos fibres may cause serious diseases that are responsible for many fatalities each

year. Exposure to asbestos may cause potentially life-threatening diseases such as asbestosis, lung

cancer, mesothelioma and diffuse pleural thickening.

Legislative Requirements

Asbestos is governed by the Asbestos Regulations, OSHAct (8 of 1993).

Legislation requires that employers identify asbestos health risks at their

premises and take steps to control the risk of exposure. Work on

asbestos-containing materials requires, inter alia, risk assessments,

laboratory identification and work plans, all of which require the

expertise of a Department of Labour Approved Asbestos

Inspection Authority.

WASTE MANAGEMENTRECYCLING

FLUORESCENT

On 23 August 2016, new regulations which prohibit all hazardous lighting lamps under

classification HWEEE (Hazardous Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), in any

shape or form into landfill, come into effect. (Government Gazette, No. 10008, Volume

578, No. 36784, dated 23 August 2013, page 44).

ENSA Environmental will follow the alternative solution to recycle all lighting lamps and recovers

all resources such as Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) Linear Fluorescent Lamps (tubes),

High Intensity Discharge Lamps (HIDs), Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and other associated lamp

products such as fittings and ballasts for reuse, at an accredited facility.

CFL Recycling Process

CFLs are shipped to a bulb recycler that uses special machines to extract the mercury and break down the

aluminum fixtures and glass casing. Mercury can be re-used in new bulbs or products like thermostats.

Fluorescent Lamp Recycling

This operation involves processing and physical separation of fluorescent lamps containing

mercury. The lamps will be separated into the streams of fluorescent lamps end caps, clean

glass, phosphor powder, and, eventually, elemental mercury.
