www.tcsheriff.org BLACK HISTORY MONTH COBRA TRAINING DAY PFLUGERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION Senior Deputy Joey Segovia and Sergeant Andy Viruee were commended by Pflugerville Police Chief Jessica Robledo for their involvement in a partnership with Pflugerville PD. Our agencies oſten interact with each other as we respond to emergency calls. These depues are part of a new iniave that enables officers to exchange intelligence informaon 24/7. The collaborave efforts have revealed paerns of criminal acvity, which led to effecve patrols and surveillance, which in turn, led to arrests. MESSAGE FROM SHERIFF HERNANDEZ Have you heard the term Community Policing? It’s the noon that keeping communies safe requires more than just a law enforcement agency; it requires a community working together, bonded by their common interests. I believe in it and at TCSO, we work hard to establish and nurture these relaonships. During this month, community policing showed its value in several tangible ways. You’ll be able to read more about them in this issue. Travis County residents were alarmed to learn of an aggravated home invasion robbery that took place in daylight hours on February 11 th . As detecves conducted their invesga- on, they were assisted by neighbors who were generous with informaon about their neighborhood and things that might have been out of the ordinary. They offered surveil- lance footage from their camera systems in the hopes it might assist us; local businesses did the same. Equipped with good witness tesmony and video footage of the area, detecves were able to determine a meline of events and idenfy a suspect. An arrest was made six days aſter the incident. This is teamwork at its best! On February 12 th , we invited residents in the unincorpo- rated areas of Pflugerville to meet with us and talk about recent property crime in their area. We talked about the calls for service we’ve responded to lately and listened to residents’ observaons and concerns. Knowing what they’re experiencing helps us provide beer service. Sharing trends we’ve observed in their area helps them protect their property and maintain their neighborhood safety and quality of life. I’m proud of the efforts of several depues who were recognized by Pflugerville Police Chief Jessica Robledo for working with their department, sharing informaon in an effort to fight crime. Community Policing is something we do with neighborhoods and with our law enforcement colleagues as well. Criminals don’t confine their acvies to a specific jurisdicon. Our united efforts with fellow agencies make us more effecve and keep Travis County one of the greatest places to live. On February 21 st , we joined the fesvies at the Naonal Council of Negro Women’s Black History Talent Showcase at Sims Elementary School. The talent consisted of dance, song, spoken word, speech, an African opening drum call and an African dance performance. We had the honor of reading Governor Abbo’s Proclamaon recognizing Feb- ruary as African-American History Month in Texas as well introducing various performances. We had so much fun in fellowship with our community! PFLUGERVILLE COMMUNITY FORUM COMBAT FITNESS RECORD On February 12 th , we hosted a forum with residents from several neighborhoods in the unincorporated areas of Pflugerville. We discussed a recent increase in property crime in their area. Our invesgaons revealed a common theme we see in most property crimes - criminals steal from unlocked vehicles. At TCSO, health and fitness are top priories. One of the fitness tests that we offer employees is Combat Fitness, a CrossFit-style workout, similar to Fight Gone Bad. Combat Fitness is 3 rounds, 5 exercises per round at 1 minute per exercise, with a 1 minute rest between each round. Total test me is 17 minutes. Exercises consist of Wall Ball, Ket - tlebell Sumo Deadliſt High Pull, Step Up, Push Press, and Row. Each rep in the first 4 events and each calorie in the Row counts as 1 point; 100% = 300 points. Senior Correcons Officer Demetrius Baker broke the agency record with a score of 439, which is 146.3%. Con- gratulaons on such an impressive accomplishment! WEAR RED DAY Working together to raise awareness about cardiovas- cular disease, the leading cause of death in women, TCSO parcipated in the American Heart Associaon’s Naonal Wear Red Day campaign.
