PARTNERSHIPS 2015

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to sharing “Ideas Worth Spreading.” It strives to foster passionate and productive dialogue among people through Technology, Education, and Design. It does so by hosting an annual TED conference as well as overseeing thousands of independently organized, community-based TEDx conferences.

The TED conference and TEDx conferences have the same format. Each speaker has an idea that he or she presents in a way that cultivates curiosity and thoughtful discussion. Each talk lasts for less than twenty minutes and many focus on how we as individuals and localities can better ourselves and the world in which we live. TED talks reach millions around the world every day via www.ted.com, providing viewers something powerful to think about in small doses.

TEDxEmory, wholly comprised of a staff of motivated student volunteers, will host its fourth TEDxEmory event on February 28, 2015. The event will be buzzing with thinkers, visionaries, and personalities who inspire every day. Past speakers include:

Dr. Frans de Waal, legendary primatologist, member of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2007, New York Times bestselling author of Age of Empathy and Primates & Philosophers, among other famous titles.

Rabbi David Wolpe, named the Most Influential Rabbi in America by Newsweek, named one of the 50 Most Influential Jews in the World by The Jerusalem Post, contributor to many prestigious publications including The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times.

Bernard Lafayette, Jr., former Civil Rights activist, founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in 1960, leader of the 1960 Nashville Movement, the 1961 Freedom Rides, and the 1965 Selma Movement, appointed National Program Administrator of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and National Coordinator of the 1968 Poor Peoples’ Campaign headed by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Susan Allen, expert in epidemiology and public health, has worked with HIV in Africa since the 1985 acknowledgement of the epidemic, aids in the development and testing of HIV prevention strategies including behavioral and biomedical interventions.

Since our first event in 2011, TEDxEmory has grown rapidly from two hundred attendees to upwards of seven hundred attendees at the 2014 conference. For TEDxEmory 2015, we are aiming to have over one thousand people in attendance. We aspire to draw locally and nationally renowned companies that are committed to innovation, groundbreaking solutions, and engaged thinking.

By becoming a TEDxEmory sponsor, you can facilitate conversation about learning, innovation, and wonder. Our vibrant group of attendees, speakers, student volunteers, and other members of the Emory community work in concert to shape the annual TEDxEmory event with their intellect and curiosity, but we could never do so without the help of our sponsors.

We will feature live streaming of the TEDxEmory 2015 event via our website (tedxemory.org), as we have done in the past, to bolster TEDxEmory social media reception. The talks will also be uploaded to our Youtube™ channel (www.youtube.com/user/TEDxEmory) for continued impact.

Our team values your time, money, and in-kind donations. Helping us support our venture presents a prime opportunity for you to advertise your organization or business to a new pool of potential customers.

THE EMORY IDEATHON

Vision

This year, TEDxEmory is launching The Emory Ideathon to bring Atlanta’s best ideas worth spreading to life. Drawing hundreds of students and passionate thinkers from the Atlanta area, the Ideathon will make it possible for leading nonprofits and charitable organizations to develop solutions to key problems in their issue areas.

Event Details

The Ideathon is a social hackathon--competitors form teams to develop practical solutions to specific problem statements. The winning teams will receive a package of rewards consisting of grant money to fund their project, pertinent resources, and the chance to work with local organizations to implement their idea.

At our main event on February 28, we will be announcing the Ideathon and opening the application on our website. Leading up to the Ideathon, applicants can begin working on their solutions and building their teams. The Ideathon will take place over three days, March 27 - 29, and teams will receive advice from experienced mentors, attend workshops and lectures relevant to each problem statement, and finally compete in three rounds of competition, culminating in a final presentation before a panel of prominent judges and the events attendees. A grand prize will be offered to the winner in each of three categories to teams that best address the given problems, and several smaller prizes will be awarded to teams demon-strating technological innovation, long-term sustainability and the greatest social impact.

Partnerships

By partnering with outstanding organizations, we are excited to be able to draw the most promising body of creative minds from Atlanta’s top colleges and professionals from the surrounding area.

Partners can take several forms; we are looking for organizations willing to contribute both tangible resources and expert advice to winning teams. Primary sponsors in each of the three competition catego-ries will have the leading role in shaping the problem statements, and thus the direction that the competi-tion takes. We encourage you to propose problems that directly affect your work, so the selected projects can benefit your organization as much as possible. Organizations unable to contribute substantial funding can still participate at a crucial level by providing guidance grounded in experience.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER

Platinum and Gold Sponsors

Our top sponsors are essential to shaping the Ideathon. We will work closely with you to create a problem statement that strategically addresses challenges you face in your issue area. Top sponsors are expected to provide background information, drawing from experience, on the issue they would like to address so that competitors have access to the best direction possible.

Non-Monetary Contributions

We welcome an assortment of types of involvement with The Emory Ideathon, and we very much encourage in-kind contributions. Supporting us presents a unique opportunity to advertise your organization or company to a new pool of potential customers. Non-monetary sponsorship levels are ranked in the same way as monetary sponsorship levels are (i.e. a $500 donation of goods will make you a Silver sponsor). We are thrilled to offer you benefits based on the value of your donated products or services!

Below are some areas we have identified, but there is a wide-range of possibilities Mentors, speakers and guidance to assist competitors Catering/Food Donations Beverages (non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks) Photography & Videography Gift Bag Sponsorship Media Partners (live streaming of the event) Printing

TED is an annual event where some of the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. "TED" stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it "the ultimate brain spa" and "a four-day journey into the future." The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share ideas worth spreading. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
