I’ve had my eye on Ted’s 16,000woodworking plans for some time.

It seemed too good to be true. Even thoughI’m not an avid woodworker, I figured if I

made one or a few of the projects from thekit it would be money well spent.

My curiosity got the best of me. I bit the

bullet and bought it. They offer a refund so Ifigured if it was totally worthless I could ask

for my money back.

IS IS TOO GOOD TO BETRUE?Not really. It’s pretty good. It’s not perfect,

but it’s good.

Some of the plans are so bad but are includedjust to beef up the sales pitch of “16,000”

plans.

And then some of the plans are great. Someare okay. I’m not surprised it’s not perfect. It’s

a massive collection and mishmash ofdifferent plans for all kinds of products.

IS IS TOO GOOD TO BETRUE?

Here’s the mindset you should have if you buyTed’s Woodworking. Accept the fact you

won’t like every plan. In fact, accept you willprobably not do 90% or more of them for anynumber of reasons such as the plans are badand/or they aren’t projects you wish to build.

BUT, the few plans that you do like and that aredecent quality, if you build them, will be make

the cost of this digital collection of woodworkingplans worth it.

Is Ted’s Woodworkingjust a bunch of ripped

off plans? Some people online have

suggested that Ted’sWoodworking plans are

blatantly ripped off from amyriad of sources and put

together into a mega digital“plans product”.

In other words, they allege

Ted’s Woodworking is a massivecopyright infringement.

Is Ted’s Woodworkinga copyright

infringement product(i.e. a scam)?

I don’t know. It’s possible, but Idon’t know so I’m not going tospeculate. Any digital product

could be.

I do know this product has beenavailable for years which means ifit was a huge copyright rip off, itseems to me the product wouldhave been shut down by now.

Of course, just because theproduct hasn’t been shut down

doesn’t mean there isn’t copyrightinfringement… but I frankly can’t

say one way or another.

It’s very possible Ted obtained alicense to sell each plan and/orthe plans are in public domain

and/or Ted came up with some ofthe plans.

I have no idea, but I neverinvestigated with a fine-toothedcomb either (who has time for

that)?

WHO SHOULD BUY TED’SWOODWORKING?

This is for people who like DIY projects. Mostof the plans are labeled “beginner”,

“intermediate” or “advanced” which is helpful.

Even if you’ve never built anything or doneany woodworking, this is a pretty good set of

plans to get going with because there arebeginner projects included.

You can build all kinds of stuff for your home.

are a lot of them.

Fortunately they are well organizedso you can find exactly what you’re

looking for.

You get the idea. Obviously someplans are better than others. Thereare some really old plans that don’tlook very good but then there are

some really good plans.

PRODUCT DELIVERY

Ted’s Woodworking is delivered asa PDF download. It’s actually a

series of PDF downloads (see plancategories above).

However, you can also order theDVD edition but it costs an extra$19.95 (I didn’t pay $19.95 for the

DVD version).

PROS:

Obviously if a plan is somethingyou want to build and the plan isdetailed enough so that you cancomplete the project it’s good.

However, some of the projectsare old and the plans are poorquality… so bad you’ll probably

just ignore them.

On the PLUS side, there are manyexcellent projects worth building.

For example, the loft bed planabove is excellent (one of many).

Some greatwoodworking

plans:Well Organized:

I was relieved after buying Ted’sWoodworking that I didn’t have to

sift through thousands of PDFpages.

Instead, Ted at least put some

effort into organizing the plans inmany categories. This made

finding some decent plans veryeasy.

In fact, the members’ area isreally easy to use and well

organized.

Good value formoney:

One or two completed projectsfrom this product makes it worth

the money.

I have no doubt I’ll get mymoney’s worth in the long runand I’ve yet to check out every

single plan included.

I’ve found enough quality projectsthat I’m satisfied with the product

value given it’s fairly low cost.

PROS:

It’s not very expensive.

Since it’s a digitaldownload, you don’thave to pay for an

expensive book, whichis fantastic.

Cost: Inspiration:

One benefit of therebeing so many plans is

simply by combingthrough the plans Icame up with new

project ideas I hadn’tthought of before.

Unfortunately some ofthe plans are terrible

which means you haveto spend some time

filtering through the badplans.

I would prefer a product

with fewer plans witheach one be high

quality.

These are a joke. Fortunatelyit’s just a bonus so I didn’t

care. I think these weaken theproduct.

The videos are primarily fromYouTube. Ted simply combedthrough YouTube looking forwoodworking videos and putthem in the members’ area.

I checked out a few of the

videos and they weren’t worthwatching.

CONCLUSION:Overall, I’m satisfied. I found several projects worth

doing and the plans were sufficiently detailed that I’d

be able to build them.

It’s a great inventory to have on hand even though I

have no immediate need. If ever I wish to build

something, I have a good set of plans to check out.
