Ted Talk

In the TedTalk with George Monbiot, the show discusses rewilding. A concept that was started a short while ago, which is basically restoring ecosystems to what they were. George continued on to explain how that most people think the small creatures, the prey, are what sustain the large predators. When in actuality both need each other. Species dwindled down when the wolves in Yellowstone were extinct, and after reintroducing wolves to the area, deer and other creatures began to grow in population.

George's goal seems to be to return the world back to its glory days of the wild. Turning big cities back into nature, to let the planet flourish again, as opposed to all the damages we are doing to it. Which to me seems like a lovely concept, but I think that is all it could be on a larger scale. To many people enjoy the simpleness of life, and I don't mean simple in the way that means little responsibility, I mean simple as in they get to be lazy. Computers and cars, they make everything so simple, and easy for a lot of people.

In my personal opinion though, I think converting a lot of the planet back to what it was, and rewilding the planet sound like a great idea. I think technology and it's privileges have gotten a little too common place, and because of it people suffer. People would be worthless with out the shortcuts computers and cars offer.

On a more relevant note, the animals and nature have suffered a lot too. Species have died out, and beautiful places have become ugly and dead. I would love to see a world that is lush green and like a jungle or a wild forest, and not have to travel to distant lands. These lands used to be beautiful like that, used to be populated by amazingly beautiful animals, and this planet used to be healthier. People have ruined a lot of it, with little care. I think something should be done, and this idea of rewilding is a great starter concept.
