Technology and Technology Integration
Mrs. BarryFirst Grade
Words from this presentation presented in a Wordle
Technology is now part of our world, our communities, our homes, and our lifestyles. It is everywhere. Technology integration also needs to be in the classroom. Today’s
students are getting prepared for the future.

Some things to think about:
“We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist…with technologies that haven’t been invented…
in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.
(MarketingGenius, 2008).
My mission?
As a professional educator
I will enrich student learning and their learning
environments
With the proper tools and procedures
To prepare them
For future learning
“It’s time to focus on what students need to learn—and on how to create a
21st century education system that delivers results. In a digital world, no
organization can achieve results without incorporating technology into every
aspect of its everyday practices (Vockley, 2007).”
Please keep in mind that today’s students are not just learning technology but rather learning with technology and through technology.
Here are the standards from the
Idaho Content Standards on Information and Communication Technology:
Standard 1: Creativity and Innovation
Standard 2: Communication and Collaboration
Standard 3: Research Skills and Critical Thinking
Standard 4: Digital Citizenship
Standard 5: Technology Operations & Concepts
In summary, technology integration should involve:
crea
tivity
communicationcritical thinking
research
skills
Digital Citizenship
Technology Operations & Concepts
collaboration
First grade has many opportunities to help reach these standards.
With the support of our PTAand parents, we have-an Elmo – document camera,-Mimio – interactive board, and-subscription to Discovery Education’s United Streaming – online resource.
We also have a classroom projector, 5 classroom computers, and access to the school’s computer lab about twice a week.
Students and parents will have access to a class website which can be found at www.teacherweb.com/id/spaldingelementary/barry. Please add this to your Favorites
as students will also know how to navigate around this site. Here
classroom news, calendars, and updates will be posted. You can also sign up for the News Flash to receive emails about
current events and important information. Most importantly, the website will also have activities and links to support our learning in the
classroom. I will also post additional activities to help enhance learning at home. (Further information on the
website will follow.)

Here are a few ways where first graders will be learning with technology:
-Discovery Education’s United Streaming to stream videos into our lessons. There are short videos and materials on all subject areas as video
-Scholastic News Interactive – Students will be able to stream video, use audio threads, use the interactive board, and learn through related games.
-Microsoft Office- Students will learn with and create their own projects using several of these programs.
As you can tell, PowerPoint is my favorite
-Drawing with Technology – students will be able to make illustrations to enhance their writings or with art projects using several drawing
tools.
Elmo – students can easily model, share, and demonstrate their
work
-YouTube – Studies have shown that “in the classroom, YouTube is becoming an educational tool to enhance learning in innovative ways
(Bloom, 2009).
www.kidzui.com
-Education Games – will be posted on Teacher Web to help promote skills in the classroom. Students will also have their spelling lists updated on SpellingCity.com (link
will be posted on website) and here they can play games and practice their words.
-Webquests and Virtual Field Trips
-Receive and give information through our school’s video announcements.
-The opportunities are endless!
The world is different from when we were learning and so students must learn in the way of their world in order to prepare them, and us,
for the future.
If you need more information about integrating technology into your
student’s daily life feel free to contact me for some great ideas. I bet they’ll
have an app for that ;)
