Email

• How many of you have an email address?

• If not – we recommend using Gmail

• Go to google.com

• Click “Gmail”, then “Create an account”

• Type in your full name, create a username, and set a

password.

• Use a professional username

Email Tips

• Be mindful of your writing style and tone

• ALL CAPS READS LIKE SHOUTING

• Font and color should be basic and remain the

same

• Use a short, simple subject line

• Introduce yourself and end your email with

your name

• Proofread your email!

TO: The person(s) you are sending the email to

CC: The person(s) you are including on the email,

but who don’t need to respond (carbon copy)

Subject: A summary of what the email is about

Body: Where you write your email

• A different way to give presentations

• Allows people who are non-verbal to share

information

• Visual aid – pictures speak louder than words

• Helps you follow your script

How to develop a presentation

• Decide what you want to talk about or ask

what they want to hear about

• Write an outline

• Make slides with information

• Insert pictures

personal messages, and other content.

Making posts about SOOH

• Be informative, but casual

• Use active words

• Be a storyteller – make the reader feel like

they were there!

• Explain the basics (the reader may not know

anything about Special Olympics)

• Check spelling and grammar

• We are a non-partisan organization!

• How can social media help your program,

region, or state?

• How can it be used to support coaches and

other volunteers?

Privacy and Online Safety

• Catfishing

• Fake profiles may be made out of boredom, loneliness, to get

revenge, or to cause embarrassment. Be aware that not all

profiles are real.

• Impacts on school and employment

• Actions on social media have real world impacts. Inappropriate

posts can cause you to lose your job or internships, affect your

school, and more. Once you post something, it’s there forever

(even if you delete it).

• Cyber Bullying

• Some people make fun of others or post unkind comments.

Report inappropriate comments.

• Do not post your:• Phone number

• Home address

• Class or work schedule

• Social plans

• Personal information

• Blocking

• You can block or report anyone that sends you

unwanted or inappropriate communication.

• If someone messages you repeatedly or bugs you,

you can block them

• Know when to stop contacting someone

• People don’t like to receive multiple messages in a

row

• Wait for someone to respond
