A Suggested Idea for a KS 3 ProjectA Pull-a-Long Toy
Mechanical Movement
This project provides opportunities for the pupils to develop their manufacturing skills whilst at the same time understanding engineering concepts such as:
rotary motion, linear motion, cams, eccentricity, friction, etc..
Design appreciation may be the best option with this project – reverse engineering!
• how could the head be made to go up and down when pulled-a-long?• could sound be activated when the model is moved?
To Design and Make a Pull-a-Long Toy

Situation / Design Opportunity:
Young children aged between 3-4 years can be entertained by playing
with toys. Interesting features on toys such as movement, sound, lights,
etc, can provide additional fun!
Design Brief:
Using the information in your study of mechanisms design and make a
Pull-a-long toy suitable for the above age group.
Design Task 1:
Your first design task is to create a more interesting shape for the Frog’sbody.
NB: Make sure you know how to cut and sand this material smooth beforemaking this change.
Body Material: Jelutong, Abaci, Pine.
