My definition of educational technology
replace this with your personal definition - think carefully about
what you read and don’t just use the one you learned in the lesson or
found on the web
History of Education Technology
• History, the History of Computers, and the History of Computers in Education http://www.csulb.edu/~murdock/histofcs.html
• A Brief History of Distance Education http://www.bsu.edu/classes/nasseh/study/history.html
• Computer-based Technology and Learning: Evolving Uses and Expectations http://www.ncrel.org/tplan/cbtl/toc.htm
Kindergarten technology• Scanners - scanning pictures
of students or other items (environmental print - i.e. cereal box) into the computer.
• Leap Frog Products - has a variety of educational products to promote early literacy and math.
• Digital Camera - take pictures of students, of student work, environmental pictures (building, staff members, field trips) to create books.
High school technology
• High Tech High is the epitome of technology in education – please check out this website to watch more about it!

I feel this video is more powerful to show educators what students have access to more
than a list I could compile
College technology• The most common
technologies used by college students are e-mail, CMS (Content Management System), course web sites, spreadsheets, and presentation software
• Some common CMS systems are ANGEL, WebCT, Blackboard, Desire2Learn, FirstClass, Sakai, and Moodle
A vivid technology learning experience
Me sitting in my college “classroom”!
A technology I want to use in my classroom
• I have always loved the idea of using IClicker to help engage my students
• I would also like to have smartboards for the students
My vision of the classroom of the future
• My textbooks on Kindle• Interactive smartboards
between me and the students
• Students having Blackberries or some device to upload work directly to my computer
A challenge for teaching
• The greatest challenge I see for using this kind of technology in the classroom is getting the funding for resources
• As of now, I can’t even get each student their own Chemistry textbook
• Another challenge that I have already discovered is that by the time DOE gets us technology, it’s already outdated
Words of wisdom
Students that learn using technology have an advantage in the “real world.” I believe that
technology enhances classroom instruction. It also seems to help engage students and capture their attention. What teacher or parent wouldn’t want
that for their digital native?
