Times change, and what is comfortable and ever-present one day is relegated to the dust-bin of history the next. New technologies and new ideas come along and obliterate the status quo, and in between a blizzard of lawyers and industry types screaming that it isn’t fair, the marketplace itself decides what’s going to survive into tomorrow and what’s going to become a niche industry for fetishists, like vinyl records, VHS tapes and world peace.

Low End Digital cameras : The advent of Android smart phones with higher quality built in cameras and the picture quality of the iPhone 4 have more users opting to use their phone rather than cameras to capture memories. This has prompted Cannon and Nikon aiming to reduce the manufacture of low end cameras and focusing on the mid and high end markets.

Car Keys : Many of the newer model cars come equip with smart keys, key-less entry and push button start. We also have drive profiles and remote starters made available through our smart phones. These phones have applications that allow the user to start their cars remotely. The smart phone application market like On Star Remote Link may well be the energy that starts our cars in the future. This does not prevent people from locking themselves out of their cars when they leave the car with the engine running and close the door. The end of car keys is imminent in five years.

GPS : Stand alone GPS systems as we have known them in the past will move into history as the newer of cars models come with built in systems. The productions and sale of these gadgets have been steadily declining since the advent of Android and smart phones which come with mapping software. Boating and out door activities may still continue to use these stand alone devices. As battery capacity improves the need for portable GPS devices will decline.
