Introduction

Power dividers are key elements in modern RF front-end

communication systems

They are used in various applications:

Power division and/or combination in antenna arrays distribution

networks

Microwave mixers, amplifiers and oscillators

High speed digital integrated circuits

Introduction

Wilkinson-type dividers are widely used

However n-way Wilkinson dividers are non-planar for n≥3

Why? 3-D floating common node makes planar implementation very difficult

Known planar structures in literature:

provide only even number of output ports

or too complicated: multi-section or coupled lines

Conclusions

In this work a planar 3-way wide-band power divider with a simple and

compact structure was designed, simulated, fabricated and tested

The mathematical analysis and the extraction of the design equations

were based on transmission line theory

Measured results showed good agreement with predicted data.

The proposed structure provides design flexibility and can be

expanded to an n-way divider
