We used corduroy solids for the fashion fabric and Dapples for the lining from FreeSpirit fabrics.

Use ½” seam allowance

Steps:1. Pockets for lining: Fold the 15” x 9” in half right sidestogether. Sew lengthwise, leaving the ends open. Turn thepocket to the right side forming a tube shape. Press. Place

on the right side 2” from the top of the lining. This will be attached in the side seams. Sew across the bottom of tube. Divide into pockets by sewing from top fold to bottom through lining fabric. For the other side lining pocket, on the 8” x 13” pocket piece, turn under ½” on each 8” end. Press. Using a zipper foot place the folded on the zipper tape and edge stitch in place. Place the other fold on the other side of the zipper tape and edge stitch in place forming a tube shape with a zipper attached. Open the zipper and turn the fabric with right sides together. Place the zipper so that it is about ½’ from the top. Sew the sides together and turn through the open zipper and press. Center the completed pocket on the opposite side of the purse lining about 2 or 3 inched from the top. Stitch the pocket in place. Fold the purse lining with right sides together and sew the side seams. Fold the bottom corners to box the purse bottom and stitch about a 3” width. Set lining aside.

2. PipingUse a piping foot or a zipper foot, fold the bias strip aroundthe piping cord. Stitch close to the piping. Trim seam allow-ances to ½”.

3. PurseMark a line with marking pen at a 45 degree angle and makeparallel lines 2” away. Do this over all the bag fabric Place thebatting on the wrong side of the bag fabric.. Using Dual DutyXP multi-color thread, stitch the batting to the fabric onmarking. After you have stitched, mark a line in the oppositedirection making diamond shapes and stitch.

4. Front Pieced PocketUsing a ¼” seam allowance, sew together square making ablock pattern. Embellish as ]desired with decorative stitchusing multicolor thread. Right sides together, sew piecedpocket front to 6 ½” x 11 ½” lining fabric on three sides,leaving one narrow end open. Turn and press. Sew this on thefront of the purse for an outside pocket.

5. Zipper pocketsMark pocket placement. Using a marking pen, mark arectangle ½” wide by 7” long. Place the 11 x 10” pocket liningover the pocket marking, right sides together. Mark pocket onthe lining 1 “ from top edge. Stitch around marking. Make acut through the center stopping ½’ from the end. Cut to thecorners being careful not to cut the stitching. Turn lining fabricto the wrong side. Press the opening. Place a 7” zipper in thecenter of the opening and edge stitch around the opening.Fold the lining fabric in half again and stitch along the bottom.The top and side seams should be sewn in the side seam ofthe purse and in the top seam. Repeat for other zipper.

Exposed zipper pocket tutorial6. PipingPlace piping in the side seam and with right sides together.Sew the sides of the purse. Fold the bottom and stitch thecorner 3” wide. Place the lining inside the purse. Baste the toptogether.

7. Top ZipperUsing the separating zipper, place the end of the zipper about¾” from the side seam. Drop the zipper tape a little lowerthan the top edge and stitch on the edge of the zipper tape.Do not sew close to the zipper teeth. Sew the other side. Ifthe zipper is to long fold the end up. The bias trim will coverit.

8. HandlesPlace the batting in the middle of the fabric. Sew piping alongboth sides of the handles. With right sides together sew thehandle pieces together and turn. Place the handle on eachside of the purse at the side seams and sew in place.

9. Finishing top of BagFold the bias trim in half, wrong sides together and press. Jointhe ends and make sure they fit the purse. Sew this to the outside of the purse. Fold to the inside and hand stitch in place orcan sew by machine.
