TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR TILING AND GROUTING

TREATMENT

SYSTEM RECOMMENDATION This document is the technical proposal for tiling and grouting treatments in the following option:-

Product specified and their descriptions:

SILVER STAR : Grey, polymer modified, cement-based thin or thick bed adhesive. The properties are

as follows.

Bed thickness : 3-6mm

Walls : Use thin bed trowel

Open time @27±10C : 10-15 min

Setting time @27±10C : 24 Hrs

Under Tile Primer: Water based under tile and stone primer to prevent efflorescence

Treatment Methodology:

Scope ................................ Walls, Floors, Interior, Dry areas, wet areas and showers (Do not use

showers for at least 2 weeks after the completion of grouting).

Substrate ........................... Brick / Concrete / Sand cement rendering / brick work / Sand cement

screed / RCC

Type of Tiles ...................... Ceramic tiles / Natural stones with high porosity

Surface Preparation ........... The newly installed substrate shall be allowed to cure and dry as per

standard practice. Sharp edges and other protrusions shall be grinded to

make them flush with the surface. The surface shall be cleaned to make

it free from all dirt, dust, efflorescence, laitance and other

contaminants. Substrate shall be level (floor), flat and plumb in line


(wall). All tile and other non-porous surfaces shall be cleaned by

washing with water containing detergent, then with clean water.

Any loose or hollow portions shall be filled and made flush with the

surface using 1:3 cement: sand mortar applied over Slurry bond coat.

Slurry bonding coat is prepared by mixing 2 parts by weight of Portland

cement to 1 part of ADMIX AD1. Apply the mix on the substrate using

brush immediately before applying mortar.

UNDER TILE & STONE PRIMER

Application ........................ UNDER TILE & STONE PRIMER shall be applied stone including the side

edges to prevent the efflorescence as follows:-

Clean all the tile / stone to make them free from all dirt dust

and other contaminants.

Apply a coat of UNDER TILE & STONE PRIMER to under side of

the tile / stone including the side edges and leave it to soak for

5 min and wipe off any excess primer remaining on the tile /

stone.

Apply the second coat of primer at a time gap of 30 min if the

porosity of tile / stone is high.

Tile / Stone Installation ...... Installation of tiles using SILVER STAR adhesive is as follows:-

Mix the Silver star powder and clean water in ratio of (by

weight) 4:1, until a lump free smooth paste of uniform mix is

obtained, using heavy duty slow speed (less than 300 rpm)

electrical drilling machine with spiral paddle attached. Thus,

obtained mix has 3 hrs of pot life.

Spread the adhesive on floor (at 6mm thick) and wall (at 3mm

thick) using suitable steel notch trowel. (Not more than 1 Sqm

at a time)

Press the tiles firmly in to the positions with a slightly twisting

action and use suitable rubber mallet for gentle tamping.

Use spacer of required size to maintain the uniform joint

width (Joint gaps of at least of 3mm shall be provided to

facilitate movement)


Tiles have to be fixed within 15 min and can be adjusted up to

5-10 min @27±10C. Touch the ribs of the applied adhesive

periodically, if skin has formed; replace the dry adhesive with

fresh adhesive.

Periodically make sure that the tiles are 100% adhesion with

adhesive.

After fixing the tiles, excess adhesive on faces and at joints has

to be cleaned periodically.

For height more than 20 feet, use suitable clamps to hold the

tile or stones in position.

Grouting can be carried out after 24 hrs.

Do not use in damp condition and temperature less than 5O C.


Option 2 ......................... Installation of tiles / stones using GOLD STAR adhesive

GOLD STAR: Single component, grey, high polymer modified, cement based adhesive. The properties

interior and exterior situations in both wet and dry conditions as bonding agent / slurry coat, once

cured acts as water resistant.

thickness of 2-3mm (Not more than 1 Sqm at a time)

the applied adhesive periodically, if skin has formed; replace

the dry adhesive with fresh adhesive.

grout. The properties are as follows.

Temperature resistance : -300C to 1500C

Compressive Strength : 4.00 KN (24 Hrs min)

ADMIX GT1: White, synthetic polymer emulsion for use with cementitious grouts, in interior and

exterior situations in both dry and wet conditions, to increase the adhesion strength, provide greater

abrasion resistance, increases flexural strength and flexibility and reduces water permeability.


Scope ................................ Walls, Floors, Interior, Exterior, and Dry areas

Substrate ........................... Glazed wall tiles / mosaics / Vitrified and fully vitrified tiles / floor tiles /

industrial floor tiles

Surface Preparation ........... All installed tiles area shall be allowed to cure and dry for 7 days. Joints

shall be cleaned and made free from all dirt, dust, efflorescence,

laitance and other contaminants. All tiles shall be checked for


soundness and good bond with the adhesive bed and substrate, if found

bad, tiles shall be removed including bed adhesive and new reinstalled

and allowed to cure and dry completely.

Joint Grouting .................... All tile joints shall be grouted using Cement Polymer Grout as follows:-

Mix the 3 part Cement Polymer Grout powder and 1 part of

clean water until a lump free smooth paste of uniform colour

is obtained, using heavy duty slow speed (less than 300 rpm)

In case of using ADMIX GT 1, dilute 0.7 – 1.5 Ltr of

ADMIX GT 1 with two parts of water and mix with 10 Kg grout

powder.

Using a grout float or rubber squeeze compact the grout into

the joint ensuring that they are completely filled, remove

excess grout as much as possible from the surface of tiles.

Use sponge or sponge-board, dampened in clean water to

clean the surface of tile diagonally.

Allow about 15 min for grout to dry.

Finally, wash down with clean water with sponge / sponge

board to remove un-dried grout film from the surface.

Once the grout has sufficiently set, polish the surface with

clean cloth.

Do not apply in damp condition.

Option 2 ....................... Grouting tile / stone joints using SUPER GROUT

EPOXY GROUT meets the requirement of British Standards BS 5980:1980 minimum for

resistance to mould growth. It also confirms to BS: Part 4:1992, section 9, for use in

sterile conditions. The product additionally meets the requirement of “The Material and


Articles in Contact with Food Regulations 1987”. The Food Safety (General Food

Hygiene) Regulations 1995 and the EC Directive 93/94 in the Hygiene of food stuffs

1993.

No required water curing and available in range of colors.


System proposed: Three components, epoxide resin-based grout


EPOXY GROUT: Three part system, epoxide resin-based grout with high degree of resistance to

chemical attack, abrasion and impact. The properties are as follows.

Joint Width : 2-20 mm




Water absorption : Nil


Tensile adhesion : >4.50 KN (14 days dry air) Dry

Shear adhesion : >3.60 KN (14 days dry air) Wet


Scope ................................ Walls, Floors, Interior, Exterior, Dry areas, Wet areas, Work tops,

Showers (Do not use showers for at least 2 weeks after the completion

of grouting), Swimming pools (Do not fill pools at least 3 weeks after the

completion of grouting), Heavily trafficked floors, Hygienic sterile areas,

Chemical resistance and Hydrotherapy pools (Do not fill pools at least 3

weeks after the completion of grouting).

Surface Preparation ........... All installed tiles / stone area shall be allowed to cure and dry for 7 days.

Joints shall be cleaned and made free from all dirt, dust, efflorescence,

laitance and other contaminants. All tiles / stones shall be checked for

reinstalled and allowed to cure and dry completely.

Epoxy Grout Installation ..... All joints shall be filled by using epoxy grouts as follows:-

Stir hardener and resin before adding them in to suitable

sized, clean container and thoroughly mix using heavy duty

slow speed (less than 300 rpm) drilling machine with spiral

paddle. Slowly add the required quantity of filler depending on

the joint width, required consistency, temperature, different

usage condition, etc. Mix thoroughly until all the powder is

dispersed and uniform coloured, homogeneous mix is

obtained.

Using a hard rubber / grout float compact the grout into the

joint, ensuring that they are completely filled, strike off excess

grout diagonally from the surface of tiles / stones and joints.

Plug open-ended joints with the stiffer mix to prevent any

slumping of the grout joints occurring.

Within 30 min of application, clean off surplus grout, using

emulsifying pad and gripper dampened with clean water to

break down the grout residue. Use in circular motion and keep

the pad and gripper flat relative to the tile surface to achieve a

flush joint. Do not allow water to flow / run in to the joints.

Clean off the emulsified epoxy / water residue with a sponge

in diagonally to the grout lines, taking care not to drag grout

from the joints.


Any light haze remaining on the tile surface can be cleaned off

using the emulsifying pad / gripper and an alkaline detergent.

Don not allow to haze remain one surface longer than 24 hrs.

The complete setting time is 48 hrs at 270C ± 10C.
