  • Position: Technical Manager Status: Full-Time Contract Direct Reports: All AV and Technical crew Hours: Full-time. Duty at weekends and at night will be an integral part of the normal working week. Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

    x Providing all the technical assistance needed for events at UCH, this includes managing the setup, strike and operation of sound, lighting, video equipment as well as rigging for all performances. This also includes providing AV support to lectures taking place in UCH.

    x Managing, sourcing and assembling equipment where necessary for events including electrical, lighting, sound, staging, and video equipment.

    x Ensuring UCH are compliant with all Health & Safety at work Act 2005 and ensuring all staff are compliant in manual handling and Health and Safety policies and procedures. In addition to liaising with the company Health and Safety Office in regards to H&S matters pertaining to Backstage, Dressing rooms, Control room and Gantry areas.

    x Supervising and managing all technical staff within the venue to ensure successful and smooth operation at all times, in addition to rostering and sourcing of additional technical staff when the need arises.

    x Liaising with the IT Department of UL to ensure an efficient and effective AV teaching support service is provided for all academic and conferring events at UCH.

    x Maintaining accurate technical/stage budgets, including providing accurate estimated figures for future production expenses, as well as tracking current expenses and technical staff hours, and ensuring they fit within current budgets.

    x Participating in production meetings to discuss technical guidelines for UCH events, to plan logistics and special requirements, and liaise with incoming Technical staff and crew for each and every performance, conference or other activity booking in.

    x Assisting other UCH staff with general venue and equipment maintenance and inventory activities, as assigned. This includes maintaining, repairing and updating all technical equipment in UCH including the backstage area, control room and gantries overhead the Concert Hall Floor in addition to all non-technical equipment, furniture, propos and stage facilities in the backstage, dressing room areas and any other stores allocated to UCH

    x Maintaining show logs to record essential and critical facts and statistics regarding each performance.

    x Maintaining positive and productive relationships with outside vendors, including negotiating favourable arrangements for UCH whenever possible.

    x Communicating effectively with supervisors, staff, and venue users to ensure the most professional event possible, and to maintain high levels of communication and cooperation with all departments at all levels as required. This includes liaising with UL appointed Electrical Contractors with the needs of incoming production power requirements and the needs of the company generally.

    x Performing any additional duties as required.

  • Qualifications and Experience Essential:

    x Minimum of 6 years experience and demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a similar position in a performing arts organisation or venue.

    x Complete understanding of concert and theatre techniques and processes, including industry safety standards.

    x Knowledge of musical entertainment and orchestral operations. x In depth knowledge and experience in AV, lighting and sound operations including

    programming of the same. x Ability and willingness to perform all duties required of stagehands and stage crew. x Rigging experience and the ability to work at height in addition to a current valid M.E.W. P

    Licence x Exceptional teambuilding and interpersonal skills. x Exceptional leadership, organisational and management skills, written and verbal. x Relevant Professional Qualifications and a full clean Drivers licence. x Intermediate or above understanding of MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Desired:

    x Experience in Arts/Musical theatre production environments. x Ability to work in a quick and detailed fashion in Vector Works or similar CAD-program x Ability to follow a score if needed.
