Background information :

CFM56-7B S/B 73-0219 introduces FADEC3 software version 7.B.W2F3 P/N 2044M25P19 and FADEC2 software version 7.B.W2F2 P/N 1853M78P39 to the CFM56-7B SAC engines.

Content :

Jet Airways will be progressively loading software version 7.B.W2F2 P/N 1853M78P39 for FADEC 2 EEC and EEC software version 7.B.W2F3 P/N 2044M25P19 for FADEC 3 EEC on all the EEC installed on CFM56-7B engines on Boeing 737 Airplane. This Software version is introduced to address several issues and will include the following changes. 1. Start Over-fuelling Event Mitigation - Address an issue within 7.B.W and 7.B.W1 software that, in rare circumstances, may result in engine over-fuelling during start attempt.

2. Oil Filter Delta P Switch (OFDPS) Logic Improvement - Update Disagree Fault 79-x112n to monitor for Close/Close disagree only. 3. Remove PMAT NVM Write Requirement during Software Load 4. Update fault 73-3135n (Dual Channel) from Short Time Dispatch to No Dispatch to be consistent with MMEL

EEC software version 7.B.W2F3, PN: 2044M25P19 should only be loaded on FADEC 3 EEC part number 2042M67P02/04 and 2044M16P02/04. 4. FADEC 2 and FADEC 3 EEC hardware are interchangeable and intermixable with each other provided FADEC 2 EEC and FADEC 3 EEC are installed with software as mentioned in para 1, 2 and 3. 5. Airplane should have FMC-MEDB software BCG-01J-05 to install with EEC software version 7.B.W 6. FMC OPS Version 10.8A (Software P/N: 549849-020, diskette P/N: 10-62225-1019) requires FMC MEDB P/N: BCG-01J-05(Diskette P/N 242A6020-1028). (Do not downgrade MEDB software to lower version (i.e., to P/N: BCG-014-A2 or BCG-014-V9) on Airplane with FMC OPS version 10.8A.

The full authority digital engine control (FADEC) FADEC2 and FADEC3 softwareversions installed in the electronic engine controls (EECs) on CFM56-7B enginemodels listed above (SAC only).

NOTE 1: This EEC software change is not applicable to CFM56-7B dual annularcombustor (DAC) engines.

NOTE 2: This EEC software change is applicable to spare EECs and EECs installedon spare engines.

NOTE 3: Electronic control unit (ECU) and EEC are interchangeable nomenclatureson the CFM56-7B engine and will be referenced as ECU/EEC.

B. Description

This Service Bulletin announces the production introduction and spare partsavailability of FADEC3 software version 7.B.W2F3 P/N 2044M25P19 and FADEC2software version 7.B.W2F2 P/N 1853M78P39 to the CFM56-7B SAC engines. Also,this Service Bulletin provides instructions to reidentify the affected ECU/EEC units.

CFM recommends that you do this Service Bulletin as soon as possible withouteffect on revenue service but before 12 months from the issue date of this ServiceBulletin.

E. Reason

(1) Objective:

To introduce new ECU/EEC software.

(2) Condition:

To incorporate reliability improvements for the CFM56-7B SAC engine models.

(3) Cause:

EEC software version 7.B.W2 incorporates updates based on revenue serviceexperience.

(4) Improvement:

NOTE: This incremental software revision addresses an issue within7.B.W and 7.B.W1 and also reduces operator burden throughenhancements.

(a) Start Over-fueling Event Mitigation

Address an issue within 7.B.W and 7.B.W1 software that, in rarecircumstances, may result in engine over-fueling during start attempt.

(b) Oil Filter Delta P Switch (OFDPS) Logic Improvement

. Update Disagree Fault 79-x112n to monitor for Close/Close disagreeonly.

. All other monitoring logic remains unchanged. The function of theswitch to detect and indicate a clogged filter at the airplane levelis unchanged.

(c) Remove PMAT NVM Write Requirement during Software Load

. Change the SW loader file included in the production compact disk(CD) to remove command to download EEC NVM when installing7.B.W2 and future software builds.

. Response to operator request to reduce maintenance burdenassociated with software load.

(d) Dual Channel 115VAC Fault Dispatch level Change to "No Dispatch"

Update fault 73-3135n (Dual Channel) from Short Time Dispatch to NoDispatch to be consistent with MMEL.




(5) Substantiation:

Substantiation is by analysis and test.

After access to the ECU/EEC is obtained, approximately 1 man-hour is required toreprogram the ECU/EEC.

7.B.W2 is interchangeable and intermix compatible with the current software version7.B.W1 and it's predecessor 7.B.W. However, 7.B.W2 is the CFM recommendedversion of software for the FADEC2 and FADEC3 EEC/ECU due to productrobustness improvements.

NOTE: FADEC2 software can only be loaded on a FADEC2 ECU/EEC and FADEC3software can only be loaded on a FADEC3 ECU/EEC.

E. Tooling - Price and Availability

The following tools are required when reprogramming the ECU/EEC:

(1) Portable data loader (PDL). CFM International and FADEC Internationalrecommend a Demo Systems PDL (PMAT 2000 is an option). CFMInternational and FADEC International do not prohibit the use of other PDLs.




However, Demo Systems has been qualified and is the only PDL currentlybeing supported.

(2) CFM PDL (Interface) adapter cable 856A1616G02 or equivalent.

(3) Shops performing the ECU/EEC modification must request the followingMaster disk from BAE Systems Product Support Engineering. This is aone-time requirement and should be retained for the life of the modificationprogram. Therefore, only one Master disk is permitted for each operator andshop.

NOTE: All CDs have embedded instructions allowing customers to makeprogramming and retrieve only working copies as needed.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

A. General

(1) The FADEC2 software P/N 1853M78P39 can be installed on all ECU/EECsidentified with the physical hardware configuration P/N 1851M50PXX, P/N1853M33PXX, or later.

(2) The FADEC3 software P/N 2044M25P19 can be installed on all ECU/EECsidentified with the physical hardware configuration P/N 2044M16PXX, P/N2042M67PXX, or later.

NOTE: It is necessary to install a specific FMC-MEDB software thatdepends on the installed ECU/EEC software version. Refer toBoeing 737-600/700/800/900 AMM, 73-21-60, Subtask 73-21-60-




993-810-F00, Table 201, to see the EEC and FMC-MEDB softwarecompatibility.

B. On-Wing ECU/EEC Reprogramming

(1) Refer to Boeing 737-600/700/800/900 AMM, 73-21-60, EEC Software Load.

C. In Shop Reprogramming

(1) Refer to the CFM56 CMM, 73-24-02, CFMI-TP.CM.507 or CFM56 CMM,73-21-75, CFMI-TP.CM.360.

(2) Data retention: Keep all downloaded NVM files as part of the ECU/EEChistory file necessary for repair source substantiation (RSS) testing.

D. Reidentification of the ECU/EEC Software Identification Plate

(1) Use a ballpoint pen to line out the old FADEC software part number (keeplegibility), and write the new software part number and version reference onthe ECU/EEC software identification plate (metallic sticker) on the ECU/EEC:
