Back To Education Initiative (BTEI): The overall aim of BTEI is to increase the participation of adults with less than upper second level education in a range of flexible learning opportunities leading to formal recognition of learners’ achievements through the National Framework of Qualifications. No fees apply for people in receipt of Social Welfare Payments or early school leavers. Otherwise the following fees will be charged: Level 3 & 4 modules (40 hours tuition) €75.Level 5 modules, €150.

Community Education (Comm. Ed.): This programme aims to provide locally based education programmes that are responsive to the local com-munity’s needs at affordable rates.

Literacy/Adult Basic Education: Through this programme we can offer one-to-one confidential tuition in reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. Art, Craft & Design

PORTFOLIO COURSE Full Certificate / FETAC level 5 5M1984

This is a one-year course delivered over three days per week (Tuesday to Thursday) from September 2014 to May 2015.

This part-time course is designed to facilitate students in the preparation of a high quality portfolio; one which is of a standard to gain entry into third level colleges in Ireland & the UK. Every effort will be made by the tutors to assist students in the preparation of portfolios for 2015 art college submission deadlines. Students on this course will not only create a personal portfolio but will also formulate a wide range of skills essential to their eventual successful completion of an art college degree course.

The subjects on the course are: Drawing / Design SkillsCeramics / CommunicationsWork Experience / Batik Printmaking / Painting

The course is suitable for both mature and post Leaving Certificate students. They will require a high level of personal committment to the course and their work. Self-motivation is absoutely essential. Information & an application form for this course is available from the centre or can be downloaded on www.techamergin.com . Working with Young People Monday 7.30 – 10pm (proposed time)[This is an essential module of the Major Award ‘Youth Work’. It can also be an elective module in the Community Development Major award. ]Students will be able to outline the nature of the youth work relationship and un-derstand the role of supervision and support in youth work practises. The course investigates principles of good practise including confidentiality, boundaries, inclusivity and partnership. The group will also address how to organise appropri-ate activities for young people with guidance and supervision.This course would be relevant to individuals working in a voluntary or profes-sional capacity with teenagers and young people in youth clubs, sports clubs and other settings where young people gather. Students will explore and practise various Batik processes including the use of a range of waxing tools, immersion (dipped) and topi-cal (painted on) dyeing, fixing of dyes and wax removal. New techniques will be introduced by way of practical demonstration and students be guided step by step and will have the opportunity to learn skills, which can be used for representational or abstract work. Saturday 11th Oct, 15th Nov, 06th Dec 2014, 9am – 5pmThis course is aimed at anyone who has hope that each small contribution we make in supporting the natural world is worthwhile.We will examine the way we live and the way we work and the way we spend our leisure time; looking at practical ways to make a significant contribution to preserving and restoring nature; discovering and learning how people in our local community achieve a feeling of deep satisfaction and hope through working with, not working against, nature. The course will be partly class-room based and partly on-site visits to those people who are already making a place for nature in our community. Suitable for those aged 18+yrs. Our Ancient Heritage: An introduction to Rock Art - 5000 year old rock en-gravings Saturday 18th October, 2 - 6 pmThe mountains and fields of Kerry, Ireland’s rock art capital, contain hundreds of rocks engraved with enigmatic motifs ca. 5000 years ago. The workshop will in-clude a presentation on rock art throughout the world showing examples of similar motifs found as far afield as Hawaii, Namibia and India.
