Teaser Trailer Updates

In this presentation I am going to explain what editing discoveries I have made and show how the

teaser trailer has developed over the post-production stage.

We used the Exposure tool to change the colouring of the shots. After choosing a colour we liked we then saved it under ‘presents’ as ‘Refractory Blue’. We added a blue tint to all of the shots through inspiration from The Matrix who have a green tint throughout the film. We thought this could be our USP.

Here I will show how how the teaser is developing from lesson to lesson. This is the post-production stage where we have just started the editing and we have put all our clips on to final cut pro x. We have favorited the shots we need so the others do not show up. Next we will put our clips in order and cut the shots to the correct duration.

We used the speed tool to change the refractory scene to slow motion by 10%. This allowed the audience to really get a feel for how the character was experiencing the world. First off we tried making the scene faster but we thought this rushed things for the audience and it didn’t give the effect we wanted so we decided slow was better. We used the transitions tool to add on a fade after the company ident appears on screen, we did this to follow the conventions of existing teaser trailers.

We increased the shot duration and the volume towards the end of the scene to create tension

We used photo shop to help create the company idents. More on how we created the company idents is shown on another journal entry. We used the company idents from the Mr Holmes teaser trailer to give us inspiration when creating our own.

We used the capacity tool to lower the capacity of the colour of the company ident to make it a similar colour to existing company idents that we looked such as the company ident featured In the MR Holmes teaser trailer.

We downloaded a font we liked from Dafont.com and used the titles tool to create the title.

We had to ‘transform’ and then ‘crop’ the social media icons to fit in the coming soon page.

The non diegetic sound such as the whispering voices we recorded using the microphone and then added on different effects on final cut. The diegetic sound we got from the music tool in final cut.

We used Garage Band to create the music for the teaser, we added this from the start and faded it out at the end.

After getting audience feedback from our rough cut screenings, we decided to cut the brain scan scene because it suggested that there was a medical element to the film which we did not want. Also, after getting feedback from a teacher we decided to merge the sound of the school bell in to the next scene rather than it stopping so that it all links in better.

As a finishing touch we checked the sound levels were all even or how we wanted them to be.
