The Problem

• Pool maintenance is time consuming and easy to neglect

• There are systems available, but… they are costly and often are not convenient

• An inexpensive, effective system would make the lives of pool owners simpler and create more time for proper leasure

Design Decisions

• Electronics: Processors and Communication• Atmel ATmega 644p & Atmel ATmega 328• ZG2100 – 802.11b wireless interface chip• Graphic LCD with touch screen overlay

• Electronics: Mechanical Control• Stepper Motors: 5VDC, Half H-Bridge drivers with step

determinant logic• Solenoid Valves: 12VDC, Half H-Bridge driver • Pool Recirculation Pump: 120 VAC, Relay

Design Decisions

• Granule Dispensing• PVC Pipe• 3 Stepper motor driven feed screws• Solenoid valve channel switching• Anti-backflow valves

• Sensing• Aquarium grade pH and ORP sensors• Diversion chamber with light turbulent flow• Op Amp/Instrumentation amplifier with running

average data filtration

Challenges

• Stepper control circuit

Page 11: Team 11 – Poseidon

Challenges

• Wi-Shield documentation• Trial and error

• Undocumented disabled pins• Rigorous Testing and research

• Router differences• Incorporate instructions in user manual

Page 12: Team 11 – Poseidon

Looking Back

• Improved definition of goals (vision)• Improved budgeting• Corporate sponsorship• Start prototype building earlier

Page 13: Team 11 – Poseidon

Looking Forward

• Improved wireless capabilities• More memory for server• Incorporate Ethernet• Ball valve vs. solenoid valve• Shock factor!• Visual / Audible warning indicators• Larger screen
