  • Teaching Guide Discovery Education-Digital Media Integration

    Written by Juan Bottia

Menu Introduction Discovery Education is an online platform for media literacy integration. Through its database teachers can create assignments and assessments containing videos, images, articles, and music. Since this program is fairly new in the district, most of the teachers in my school are using it solely to stream videos. It will benefit the students if this professional development is designed to help educators use Discovery Education to integrate media literacy. Aim This professional development is designed to help teachers build rigorous media literacy tasks that are aligned to the CCSS. To achieve this objective teachers will learn to use Discovery Educations Common Core in the Classroom lesson database (images, videos, and lesson plans), the Writing Prompt tool, and the quiz and board builders. Rationale The tools in Discovery Education allow teachers to establish one hub for their students online learning experiences. Without a Discovery Education account, teachers would have to use several web 2.0 tools to create an online learning platform (see Figure 1) where

students can collaborate, research, and complete assessments.
