INTRODUCTION OF THE DIDACTIC UNIT:
At the end of this didactic unit students will have to present their own English towns using
English specific vocabulary, directions and instructions of locations.
OBJECTIVES:
To be able to give and understand directions.
To be able to situate themselves in a town or in a city.
To be able to present their own towns to other students.
To be able to recognize and name a variety of buildings and places you can typically
find in a town.
To be able to produce short oral text in English to explain main features of their own
towns.
To participate actively in the class interaction.
COMPETENCES:
Active participation during all sessions and different activities.
Good understanding of simple instructions given.
Communicative and linguistic competence.
CONTENTS:
Vocabulary of buildings and places in English.
Prepositions of location.
Language associated with giving directions.
SESSION 1
ASSESMENT:
I’m going to assess the three different essential aspects in the teaching and learning process:
Learning by doing
Learning in the moment
Learning taking place
At the end of the didactic unit I’m going to give them a final test to see if pupils have achieved
all the contents and objectives that I raise during this didactic unit.

Session 1 (
Give them a worksheet with pictures related with town and they have to write
the correct names.
Reinforce vocabulary with flashcards

Memory game: name of different places and things you can find there.
Worksheet: put in common all ideas acquired

SESSION 1
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This session is only an introduction to the topic. At first, we are going to give the students a
worksheet with pictures of buildings and places you can find in a town and they will have to
write their names in English. It will be an initial assessment to see what they know or remember
from other grades. Then, we will correct it and I’m going to reinforce this information with
flashcards using the same pictures in the worksheet but in a bigger size. I’m going to put them
in the board and I’m going to ask them to say the names (looking for their pronunciation and
asking them the meaning of each building and place).

FINAL PRODUCT: From this session we are only going to have at the end all worksheets completed by students.
ASSESMENT: It’s going to be assessed the previous knowledge students have (by doing the introductory

SESSION 2
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
During this session we are going to do, at first, a review of the names of places and buildings
with flashcards used last day and then we are going to play memory game in pairs. In the
memory game we are going to have one group of cards with building’s names and, on the other
hand, another group of cards with some things related with each place.
Finally, they will do a worksheet: What things can we find in each place?
CONTENTS:

SESSION 3
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
In this session we are going to introduce location (between, next to, in front of, on the right, on
the left) because they can locate in a town. At first, we are going to show them a power point
with pictures to understand each location meaning. We are going to reinforce this playing who
is who game with themselves. Finally, they are going to do a worksheet which consists on
having a picture of a town and some locations explanations and they will have to guess about
which building or place it is talking about working in pairs.

SESSION 4
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
In this session we are going to introduce directions (go straight, turn left, turn right, turn at the
corner) with a power point using white board. We want they can give directions in a town (on
in a map of it). We are going to do this playing “Guess where I am “game in pairs. We are going
to give them a picture of a town and texts describing a path. They have to guess where they
are after doing the path correctly. Finally, we are going to do some ICT games.

SESSIONS 5 AND 6
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
In this both sessions we are going to create English towns in groups of four and they will have
to present them to other students. So the students will have to take recyclable materials and all
they want to create their own towns. They have to use all vocabulary acquired during the
sessions done before and they will have to use location and direction vocabulary to prepare the
presentation and to introduce their towns to other students using vocabulary of location an
direction too. I will give them a guideline to complete with their own description. Also, I’m
going to tell them that I’m going to record them while working in group, so I want to listen
them talking in English and they will have some Green points or Gold Stars.

FINAL PRODUCT: From this session we are going to have six different English towns and six different presentations of them.

It is going to be assessed the way they work in groups and the creativity they have doing their
own English towns. It is important to see that all students collaborate with their groups and
they propose ideas and help the group and talking in English the best they can.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
During this session students are going to present and expose their English towns to other
students.

FINAL PRODUCT: From this session we are going to have the different towns and the presentations from students of their own creations.
ASSESMENT:
It’s going to be assessed the presentation of their towns using all vocabulary and instructions
learnt during the didactic unit and the use of good communicative skills.
