Open Sessions for Students and Staff Okanagan College staff and students are invited to attend these workshops.

Emerging Faculty and Instructors Introductory level workshops aimed at those beginning their teaching career at Okanagan College.

Evolving Faculty and Instructors Intermediate workshops aimed at those with foundational experience or understanding of teaching and learning at Okanagan College.

Experienced Faculty and Instructors Advanced workshops aimed at those wishing for extension and challenge, assumes prior knowledge or experience of teaching and learning.

Are you interested in learning about using the Grade Book in Moodle and how it supports student learning? This interactive workshop will provide an overview of the Grade Book functions and introduce effective ways to set it up and use it, while supporting student success.

functionality. Define grading categories and weights in Moodle that

align with your course outlines. Design a gradebook while learning key considerations

for effective functionality. Integrate embedded assignments and assessments into

Introduction to OneNote Open Workshop

Date: Monday, September 16, 2019 Time: 9:00am Duration: 1 hour Location: PC129 (Penticton Campus)

Make your notes paperless and easily searchable by setting up your own virtual notebook in OneNote. This workshop will provide a brief overview on how OneNote can be used to organize and manage your notes for instruction, assignments, course preparation, lesson plans, assignments, meetings, and personal files. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops and share some of their own strategies used with the group.

Learning Outcomes: Set up a file structure in OneNote and explore its

applications for teaching and file management. Use the search features of OneNote to retrieve

information quickly. Share your OneNote notebooks and documents with a

group. Examine OneNote’s capabilities for face-to-face and

synchronous on-line teaching and learning.

Are you looking for ways for your student assessment to further inform your practice and support the course learning outcomes? This session will examine a variety of classroom assessment techniques that support formative and summative assessments reflective of learning outcomes that support learner success.

Check out the new Video Capture Cart in Education Technology. In this workshop, participants will receive a demonstration of the Video Capture Cart and explore its applications in teaching and learning for distance and in-class learning.

Introduction to Blackboard Collaborate Evolving

Participants in this workshop will be introduced to delivering live, interactive, and collaborative sessions on-line with participants at a distance. The key characteristics of the Collaborate platform will be presented including the differences between facilitator and participant roles. Common strategies of how to effectively manage communication tools, use the audio indicators, managing session and participant interaction, the display the whiteboard and PowerPoint content, and record sessions for later playback will be presented.

Collaborate functions. Examine how to use the content sharing options and

Universal design learning (UDL) involves structuring the learning environment, instructional strategies and assessment methods to be accessible to the widest possible range of users. Explore ways to incorporate UDL into your course design using multiple means to represent information, alternate expressions of knowledge, and diverse delivery of course content.

Introducing Microsoft Sway, a cloud-based software that can be used to share reports and presentations in a professional, easy-to-use platform. Participants will be invited to explore some of the features and functions of this program and its capabilities as an alternate presentation format for learning and student presentations.

Formative assessment strategies can help mitigate this through quick activities and approaches that inform your teaching throughout a lesson or unit of study to best assess learner progress in relation to intended learning outcomes.

how to apply these methods to varied lessons, disciplines and delivery models.

Teaching in Trades – WeVu and You Evolving

Date: Friday, October 25, 2019 Time: 1:30pm Duration: 1 hour Location: Trades Boardroom (Kelowna Campus)

What is WeVu and how can you use it to support the assessment of hands-on skills learning and development? This workshop introduces how the WeVu application may be used as a teaching and learning tool amongst students and instructors. Come examine how students may use this tool to record and submit a video of their skills practice. Instructors can then review the video contents and provide real-time feedback at specific points during the recording. For this interactive session you will need a laptop or handheld device connected to Wi-Fi or data.

Learning Outcomes: Evaluate WeVu’s applications to a Trades program,

including its strengths, potential challenges or limitations.

Discuss examples of its use within current OC programs.

and demonstrations of learning. Discuss how podcasts could enhance learning and

teaching in your courses. Record and upload a podcast to Moodle.

The semester is rapidly coming to a close and students are completing their final assignments. What information can be gathered at this time, and throughout the term, to guide your practice? This session will address how to track student progress to inform the evolution of your course delivery and content to support student progress throughout the course. Participants are invited to bring their own assessment to evaluate.

Learning Outcomes: Evaluate forms of assessment and how they could be

applied to your area. Examine the ways that assessment can guide student

support, future planning and course revisions. Discuss forms of assessment and their role in informing

teaching and learning. Evaluate the validity of one of your assessments in

relation to course learning outcomes.

Designing and Evaluating Summative Assessments Teaching Tuesday | Evolving

Tests, essays and projects are common forms of assessment used in post-secondary that provide students, instructors / faculty, and program with valuable information on student progress. This session will evaluate the benefits or summative assessment as well as its limitations. A variety of examples, applicable across disciplines, will be presented. Please bring along your successes to share with the group.

Learning Outcomes: Define summative assessments. Examine examples of summative assessments and

discuss their benefits and limitations. Design a summative assessment for a particular

application in one of your classes.

Best Practices in On-line Course Design Evolving

Date: Thursday, December 05, 2019 Time: 10:00am Duration: 1 hour Location: L100 (Kelowna Campus)

Participants will be guided through several best practices used for on-line course design including effective course navigation strategies and structure. Examination of how to encourage collaboration amongst learners in your on-line classroom and how to meet learning outcomes will be explored.

This session will introduce you to several use cases for learning analytics. Participants will also review some of the functions of Moodle analytics, and learn how this data can be used to inform their teaching and learning processes.

inform practice.
