“In a completely rational society, the best of us would be teachers and the

rest of us would have to settle for something less, because passing

civilization along from one generation to the next ought to be the highest

honour and the highest responsibility anyone could have.” ~

Lee Iacocca

Major objective of Teacher - Inspire Students

Teaching - Making Students Learn Teaching - Learning Process - Should be Enjoyable to the Students and the

Teacher.

Introduction

Page 5: Teaching learning

Deeper Involvement Strong Zeal and Ability of Teacher (Total Commitment) Students Must Have Enthusiasm to Learn (Teacher Must Induce that

Enthusiasm in Students) Joint Productive Activity (JPA) – Teacher and students producing results

together

Facilitate Learning Through JPA among Teacher and Students Learning - Experience (Doing by self) # 1

- Observe keenly how others are doing # 2

- Listening from others’ experiences! # 3

- Reading others’ experience # 4

Concentration The key to success!! Before introducing new concepts, ask students to concentrate!!! Do not allow them to do anything else other than listening in the class!

(No human can do two things simultaneously!)

Students are people Listening for long-time is difficult Distracts the attention Effective Listening Requires Rapt Attention!

Normal human concentration time – 25 minutes!

Creative Teaching Continues …

People give attention to stories

- Our brains are wired to store stories!

- Talk stories relating to the concept you are teaching

- Tell stories about people who developed the concept!

People respond to Personal Attention

- Call students by names asking them if they understood the Concept!

- Greet students!

- Take time to stop and talk to students!

Page 11: Teaching learning

Creative Teaching Continues …

People respond better to praise than to Criticism

- People respond best to personal praise!- A pat on the back yields fantastic results!

Constructive Criticism – Delivered in a positive environment.

People have natural curiosity

- Work to create assignments and labs that give students the chance to explore, try new things, and invent!!!

- Analysis- Thinking- Identifying mistakes- Accepting the mistakes- Remembering the mistakes

People would rather not read

- Basis for College

People do not hear everything that one may talk

- Repetition may not be bad!

99% of People are honest

Orient your policies, rules, etc. towards 99% people and deal with the 1% separately when need arises!

6. An Extract from Mr. Abraham Lincoln’s letter to his Son’s Teacher

He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, all men are not true.

But teach him also that for every scoundrel, there is a hero, for every selfish

politician, there is a dedicated leader.

Teach him, that for every enemy, there is a friend.

It will take time, I know, but teach him if you can, that a dollar earned is of

far more value than five found.

Teach him to learn to lose and also to enjoy winning.

Steer him away from envy, if you can, teach him the secret of quiet laughter.

Let him learn early that the ‘bullies are the easiest to lick.

Page 24: Teaching learning

Abe’s Letter Continues…

Teach him if you can, the wonder of books, but also give him quiet time

to ponder over the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun

and flowers on a green hillside.

In school, teach him, it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat.

Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they

are wrong.

Teach him to be gentle with the gentle and tough with the tough.

Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone

is getting on the bandwagon.

Teach him to listen to all men but teach him also to filter all that he

hears on a screen or truth and take only the good that comes through.

Page 25: Teaching learning

Teach him if you can how to laugh when he is sad.

Teach him there is no shame in tears.

Teach him to scoff at cynics and to beware of too much sweetness.

Teach him to sell his brain and brawn to the highest bidder but never to

put a price on his heart and soul.

Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob and stand and fight if he

thinks he is right.

Abe’s Letter Continues…

Page 26: Teaching learning

Let him have the courage to be impatient, but also let him have the

patience to be brave.

Teach him always to have sublime faith in himself so that he will have

sublime faith in mankind.

Teach him gently, but do not cuddle him, because only the test of fire

makes the finest of steel.

This is a tall order, but see what you can do.

He is such a fine little fellow, My Son!

Abe’s Letter Continues…

7. Some Interesting Facts on being Passionate About Teaching

Realize that good teaching takes a lot of hard work and dedication! Make sure it is your passion, and don’t expect to be paid for everything that you

do. Do not go into teaching unless you absolutely love to teach and love students. Follow your passion and teach what you love! Run towards it or away from it (teaching) but commit or leave.

It’s a profession, career, may be a calling; but, definitely it’s not a job. If doing it doesn’t reward you, there’s not enough being offered to make it

work. Don’t waste the students’ time and education for your own convenience.

Page 28: Teaching learning

Don’t give up. Stick to your career plan. Teaching is the most rewarding

career you can possibly have.

Your job is for the students. If you do not like students, do not take this job.

You will not have money or all of the things you want in life, however, you will

receive many rewards from your students.

It is NOT a 9-5 job, 5 days a week. It is a 24/7 job all 365 days a year.

Page 29: Teaching learning

Find your passion and share it with the students through your teaching.

You may only be in the classroom for about 10 months, but teaching is a 12

month, 10 or more hours a day, 7 days a week career and unless you are

willing to put in time outside of your scheduled office/work time you have

chosen the wrong career.

I would recommend that if you find you do not love teaching within the first

two years, you should immediately get out of the profession and find

something that pays better and is more rewarding and enjoyable.

Page 30: Teaching learning

Make sure you are in the right profession and always look for ways to

become better at what you do.

Pray hard before committing to this profession.

Teach from the bottom of your heart and stay clear of teachers who were

burnt out and have nothing good to say. You do make a difference!

Be prepared to do everything for very little pay or appreciation.

Page 31: Teaching learning

Being an educator is a thankless job but when you see the faces of your students light up

with a glow in their eyes when you walk into the classroom it is worth all of the work.

You better be very sure that this is what you want to do because it is a hard profession to

stay in due to the lack of support from parents, administrators, and the general public.

The pay is not good and the retirement is not good.

The one thing that new teachers need to remember is that the students are the best

reason to be in this, and if you are going into it for a different reason then you need to re-

evaluate this job choice.

Page 32: Teaching learning

This is a career, not a ‘job’. If you are not willing to work outside the

‘duty’ day, this is not the career for you.

Teachers have to have a special commitment and dedication.

Be sure it is what you want to do for the next 40 years.

Be prepared to work hard and not get the kind of money your friends

will be earning.

Be prepared to, to be excited over the little things your class works so

hard to achieve. Their success will mean more to you than anything else

you do.

Martin Luther once wrote: "A society's best and greatest welfare, safety,

and strength consist rather in its having many able, learned, wise,

honorable, and well-educated citizens.” – If you can recapitulate,

Chanakya’s dictum was the same.

Today education is at a turning point.

Educational institutions should be a mirror of a future society.

The foremost goal of education is to create men and women who are

capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what earlier

generations have done.

Page 34: Teaching learning

Our conviction is that there can be no significant innovation in education that

does not have at its epicenter the attitudes of the teachers.

The beliefs, assumptions, and feelings of teachers are the air of the learning

environment: they determine the quality of life within it.

We should be proud to say that we belong to this closely knit fraternity

where the seeds of greatness were first sown by farsighted, visionary

educationists.

While we teach our students to think our emphasis here should not be on how

many answers they know, rather, the focus should be on how well they try to

learn when they don't know.

Page 35: Teaching learning

An Institute isn't good enough until it is good enough for our

own children.

In fact it's not only that it must be good enough for our own

children but it must be the Dream Institute we want for our

children.

Conclusions

Students work hardest for a teacher they like and respect most!

Show LOVE and AFFECTION towards “Students”!!

It is the Responsibility of the Teacher to make the Student Realize that the

Teacher is as Concerned as his/her parents and Definitely More

Concerned than the student himself/herself about the Student’s Career

and Future!!!!!

Page 37: Teaching learning

Teaching is a Performing Art!!

Page 38: Teaching learning

Finally, To Conclude,

You Will Work Very Long Hours,

But It Is Indeed

A HIGHLY REWARDING CAREER!!!
