After the trip, we had a lot of meetings. We learned more about “21st Century Learning”

Our committee of teachers had a million questions. Then we helped to plan an inservice for our staff in May.

Page 32: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer
Page 33: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

After the inservice we still had a million questions.

Page 34: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

After the inservice we still had a million questions. Were we going to try being a school like Poston Butte?

Was there really anything wrong with the way we were teaching?

And then it was June 30th.

Page 41: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer
Page 42: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

I was given a cart of 24 netbooks to use to figure out how to try teaching in a blended learning environment.

Better learn to set up a website or three

Page 43: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

Page 47: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

I started to write a bit and post it on this site. I started to develop a web presence. This made it real for me.

Page 48: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer
Page 49: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

Joining Twitter was a big

step. I only did it because

my Dad pressured me into

it.

it. Thanks, Dad. Really.

Page 52: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

TweetDeck helped me to

make sense of Twitter and

get more out of it. 1000’s of

teachers share ideas on

Twitter- I’d never find this

stuff in a Google search.

Page 53: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

So I started to develop a Personal Learning Network out of necessity. I had no idea what a PLN was until I discovered someone “tweeting” about PLN’s one day.

And my own learning started to be layered- I started to feel like I knew a few things- had a few things to offer to others, and that was good, because the year at Dakota was all about experimenting and preparing the staff for changes that were on the horizon.

Page 56: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

So my students started

handing in assignments on-

line as email attachments.

I struggled to figure out how

to grade & assess without

any paper handy.

Page 59: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

I discovered the

power of a rolling

chair for formative

assessment.

I still teach like this for

the first bit of the period

Page 61: Teaching and Learning when everybody has a computer

But now most

of the period is

with individuals
