Meaningful Objects: The Cubist Still Life Monday, February 11, 2013, 6 – 9p Taking inspiration from the exhibition Georges Braque and the Cubist Still Life, 1928 – 1945, teachers will explore the meaning of objects in their everyday lives by engaging in a gallery centered writing exercise and an altered book art making project. Teachers are invited to bring images of objects from their homes, offices or classrooms that have meaning to them, trigger memories of past events or represent a glimpse of their life story. Eileen G’Sell, poet and Washington University teacher of English, will lead the writing portion of the workshop. COCA instructor and mixed media artist, Maria Ojascastro, will lead the altered book making project while exploring the technique of encaustic collage, incorporating Cubist devices and helping teachers find layered meaning in their creations. All materials will be supplied. Space is limited; registration is required.
