FOREIGN TEACHERS OF ENGLISH + CLIL Group course: min 8 - max 16 Eligible for Erasmus funding: PIC number 943741422

The two week (25 hours per week) FTE course is designed for teachers whose first language is not English and who wish to refresh their English language skills, while at the same time explore new methodologies and different approaches to teaching a language.

Typical participants include :

1) Primary and Secondary teachers who already have some experience of English Language Teaching who want to make their classes more motivating and dynamic

2) Teachers and classroom assistants who teach subjects through English ( i.e. History, Geography etc.) to primary or secondary students

3) Teaching professionals interested in exploring the key principles of CLIL

Each course is bespoke as each group has their own needs and interests, such as teaching YLs in the primary sector, teaching teenagers in secondary school and/or CLIL. All courses have a strong focus on practical classroom ideas which teachers can take back to their schools. All participants receive a practical digipack full of ideas and resources from the course which will effortlessly transition into their home teaching environment.

Course objectives:

The course will help you to:

Teach large and mixed ability groups effectively

Fine tune your classroom management and lesson planning

Maximise group dynamics by effective use of warmers and games

Make grammar engaging and error correction fun

Integrate technology effectively and bring the course book to life

Bring the real world into the classroom through use of authentic materials such as music, newspapers, social media

CELTA The Cambridge CELTA course is internationally recognised and is the minimum teaching qualification for many English language schools worldwide. Typical participants include:

1) University and college graduates

2) People looking for a career change

3) Teachers of other subjects

4) People who want to travel/live/work abroad

5) Gap-year students

6) Non-native English speakers/international applicants with level of proficiency in English equivalent to C1/C2

Course objectives:

To understand the principles of effective teaching and acquire the practical skills to allow you to do this.

To become more aware of language and be able to apply this knowledge when teaching.

To start to understand how and why adults learn English and the role of both the teacher & the learner.

To learn how to develop professionally in the field.

To receive a qualification accredited at level 5 on the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF).

What to expect: This is a highly intensive course. A considerable amount of additional work in the evenings and weekends is also required. It is highly recommended that no other work or social commitments are scheduled for the duration of the course.

Course components:

The course is assessed in two ways –

Classroom related written assignments

Planning and teaching practice. The assessment relates to five syllabus areas :

Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context

Language analysis and awareness

Language skills – reading, writing, listening, speaking

Planning and resources for different teaching contexts

Developing teaching skills and professionalism

Where is it? Aberdeen is in North-East Scotland a few hours from

Edinburgh & Glasgow. It is also the gateway to the Highlands.
