Guidance for use

This resource provides a menu to support trainees and NQTS to make progress

against the Teacher Standards in Term 3. Mentors can support with this remotely

in various ways, including suggesting or directing them to certain aspects, and

discussing what they have been reading or watching when they check in

Each standard has 2 parts:

1. In the Virtual Classroom (or in school if on rota)

- suggested activities to promote and evidence progress

2. Outside the Classroom

- online CPD links

- wider reading

NOTE: Be sure that any activities you complete are in line with your school’s guidance at the

current time (workload, teaching and learning, safeguarding)

Based on the OAKS Secondary History Resource, Keele University 2020

Teacher Standard 1: Set high expectations

How Are We Meeting It?

• In the Virtual Classroom:

- Celebration of Work – If you are using Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom,

you can still celebrate excellent work by posting it to the group

- Learning Objectives – Maintain clear learning objectives for each

piece of work you set and ensure the pupils are fully aware of your

high expectations for the work.

- Student Voice or Pupil Conferencing – This situation is new for us all. Make

sure to ask pupils how they are coping. What method of setting

work is easiest for them? How are they finding working online?

Is anyone struggling to access the material?

- Positive Attitude – project a positive attitude and understand

that some pupils will be worried about current uncertainty
