Special pricing for afternoon conference with teaching materials: $10 per day This conference provides an in-depth perspective of the critical period in American history beginning in 1619. Teachers will learn about the impact of early Africans on the development of the Virginia colony and the emergence of a limited legislative body. They will also learn about the impact the English settlers had on the American Indians in Virginia. The conference will stress historical accessibility by distributing scholarly research to primary and secondary school teachers. Teachers will attend sessions with eminent scholars and experts in workshops and special presentations. Special Teacher Workshops will be held in the afternoon on both days to instruct teachers on how to forge strategies for integrating what they have learned into the classroom. A Teachers’ Guide will summarize the content of presentations, as well as primary sources and documents relevant to the themes of the Conference.
