RESPONSORIAL PSALM:

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:

Tea Tree Gully Parish St DaviD’S, tea tree gully & Our Lady of Hope, Greenwith

Under the Pastoral Care of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate

20th December, 2015 - 4th Sunday of Advent- Year C Readings This week: Mi 5:1-4, Heb 10:5-10, Lk 1:39-45 Next week: Sir 3:2-6. 12-14, Col 3:12-21, Lk 2:41-52

Our commitment to the Year of Mercy is to pray this prayer

at the end of each Sunday Mass. We invite you to take a

prayer card from the foyer and pray this pray as often as you

can during the year.

In the beginning was the Word:

the Word was with God

and the Word was God.

(John 1.1)

In 1986 I remember a conversation with Fr. Leo Mifsud, who was the assistant priest at the time, where he told me about the old marble Altar Rails and how he wished he could have turned them into a new lectern for the Church.

The seed of that conversation has remained with me all those years. Last year I mentioned the idea to Alf Borg and, as with any idea I share with him, he began to think of a way to bring it to fruition. After a long search for marble, many drawings and of course a desire to do blend old and new, we were able to settle on a design that included marble, timber from old pews and glass - Alf’s passion. As you can see what we have created is something which brings all the elements together and truly does honour to the Word of God.

As we approach the season of Christmas, the birth of the Word amongst us, we give thanks to God for His many gifts to us, His constant, powerful presence, our imaginations and the skills to bring forth beauty. On behalf of all of us we would like to thank Alf for this extraordinary gift of his skill and talent and especially for all the many things he does for the Parish to maintain and better our worshipping environment.

May the seeds of God’s Word planted in our hearts and minds always find us willing to enact and bring forth all He calls us to do.

Laudato Si': On the Care of Our Common Home

Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudato Si': On the Care for Our Common Home is a call for global action as well as an ap-peal for deep inner conversion. He points to numerous ways world organisations, nations and communities must move forward and the way individuals -- believers and people of good will -- should see, think, feel and act. “Listen to, protect lands of and involve indigenous peoples. The disappearance of cultures is even more serious than losing a species.” (Par 145)
